Today is Mum’s xxth Birthday. Where xx=whatever number Mum wants it to be.
We all hope you have a brilliant day, and that John makes sure you don’t have to work too hard.
Hopefully Anna will get a chance to see her Nanna on the webcam again, and we’re all already looking forward to seeing you, John, Gwen and everyone else in just a few months time.

Wow, the whole front page is, until this post, made up of recent tweets. Sorry about the lack of real content. I’ve got a few more Anna videos to post, and a few photos to sort as well. So what has happened since the last real post? Aunty Sveta and her family returned to their home town (most of them went on the train, but my the Best Man from my wedding has bought a lorry, and happened to be in Astana for a delivery. He obviously couldn’t leave it here, so drove it back. At least we know what we can get him for his next birthday, some (semi-(if you’re an American reader)) truck accessories seem quite apt, I especially like the idea of a 12V pizza oven! I’m guessing that this (and the coffee maker) are supposed to be used when not actually driving? Anyway, all seemed well with them, and it was good to see them once more this year.
As mentioned in a previous tweet, we had some friends over for a meal last night, and we managed to save some of the death by chocolate cake for Ira’s parents to try today. They both seemed to like it 🙂

I am pretty sure he will not see this post in time (as Jan is taking him to Prague as a present), but happy 60th birthday Dad 🙂 We all hope you have a brilliant day, and know that you are in our thoughts over here.
As you may have guessed from this post’s title, it is also Babushka’s (Ira’s Dad’s Mum’s) birthday today. We aren’t 100% certain how old she is, as her birth certificate wasn’t created until a little while after she was born, but we hope you have a great day with the friends you have coming over, and that you’ll enjoy your birthday meal with your family this weekend.

Irina has been ordering a few items for Anna on e-bay, but obviously concentrating on larger sizes, so we can just pick up the clothes when we next return to Britain, rather than having them all reposted to Kazakhstan. So far, we don’t seem to have suffered problems with the Royal Mail strike having delayed anything (touch wood), but according to the BBC’s article on the changing habits of British people sending postcards more and more people will be sending electronic cards this year, in an attempt to save money, and also bypass the whole ‘lost in the post’ issue that occasionally put a damper on proceedings. We sort of operate a half way policy – there is no point in us actually sending real cards from Kazakhsan to people on their birthdays/Christmas, as the post isn’t reliable (see Lucky’s video which will be embedded in an upcoming post) and the selection of available cards over here still isn’t great. So for immediate family, we use an online service that prints a personalised card and then posts it, and for everyone else, we just hope they won’t be offended if we don’t re-start the whole greeting card thing when we move back to Britain.

starring DanD. Not a low budget remake of a classic 80s movie, but instead some photos from his birthday meal that are a little late in being posted. We were still able to eat outside at the time, and so he chose Tiflis, a Georgian restaurant here in Astana. Badger lady hasn’t been seen in a long time (a singer with a badger/Pepé Le Pew style hair colouring), but there was a man singing along to some karaoke. Dan had had enough drinks to decide that we should all hear his dulcet tones, however the singer explained that he charged people to use the microphone!

As you have most likely guessed from this post’s title, today (12th October – we’re just into that day over here in Kazakhstan, and I doubt he’ll read this in the 4 or so hours left of the 11th of October back in Britain) is my brother’s birthday. He already has the best present he could wish for, as his Facebook friend’s and reader’s of John’s blog already know. I’ll post on that soon.
I hope you have a great day with your family and friends, and that you stay sober enough to remember it Tuesday morning 🙂
