Dedication

Category: In The Media,Pictures,VideosChrisM @ 5:43 pm

There will be quite a few more pictures from 9gag coming soon, I’ve got a lot bookmarked for future reference, but for now, check out the picture and related video from Meanwhile, In Japan.

Meanwhile, In Japan

As you’ll see in the comments section over there, someone helpfully posted the music video that this still shot was taken from, see below.

I was impressed that the bouffant (I think it is a little beyond a quiff) of the main guy in the video and seen in the picture seemed to survive walking around outside. I wonder how many cans of hair spray he gets through though? I need to remember to add 9gag to the LOL page here soon.

Lucky21842 Live

Category: VideosChrisM @ 1:43 am

So Lucky is planning to give a live webcast later on today, at around 6pm (our time – should be midday in Britain, 8am on the East Coast in American, and 9pm in Japan?)
Anyway, here is the man himself explaining a little more in a YouTube vid he uploaded on the subject.

I’m going to be teaching an English lesson around that time, but hopefully there’ll be some sort of archive so I can play it back, even if real time interaction is out the window…
So, head over there if you want to ask an American living in Almaty, Kazakhstan what life is like (though he probably answered a lot of your questions in his other YouTube videos, so go and watch a few first 🙂 ).

Oh, the BlogTV URL is here.

Two Out Of Three

Category: PersonalChrisM @ 1:08 am

OK, so five days since my last proper post. As previously mentioned, I have been more than a little distracted by writing a guide for people moving to Astana, and fixing a couple of PCs. However the PCs are now sorted, the guide is mostly written, so I’ll try and write some new text/post some videos on the blog tonight.

Busy

Category: PersonalChrisM @ 3:28 am

Sorry there haven’t been any posts for a while, busy finishing off a guide to Astana for a relocation company. As ever, I have a ton of draft posts and tabs open to write about…

10 And A Half Weeks

Category: Friends,Personal,PicturesChrisM @ 2:12 pm

starring DanD. Not a low budget remake of a classic 80s movie, but instead some photos from his birthday meal that are a little late in being posted. We were still able to eat outside at the time, and so he chose Tiflis, a Georgian restaurant here in Astana. Badger lady hasn’t been seen in a long time (a singer with a badger/Pepé Le Pew style hair colouring), but there was a man singing along to some karaoke. Dan had had enough drinks to decide that we should all hear his dulcet tones, however the singer explained that he charged people to use the microphone!

Sheep Pong

Category: VideosChrisM @ 2:28 am

Sheep.
Dogs.
Men.
Lights.

Add them together, and what do you get? Sheep pong. It just sounds a bit better than Sheep-dog-man-light pong. But only slightly…

Happy Birthday Bro

Category: PersonalChrisM @ 1:35 am

As you have most likely guessed from this post’s title, today (12th October – we’re just into that day over here in Kazakhstan, and I doubt he’ll read this in the 4 or so hours left of the 11th of October back in Britain) is my brother’s birthday. He already has the best present he could wish for, as his Facebook friend’s and reader’s of John’s blog already know. I’ll post on that soon.

Happy Birthday Nick Merriman

I hope you have a great day with your family and friends, and that you stay sober enough to remember it Tuesday morning 🙂

Funny Links

Category: PersonalChrisM @ 6:19 pm

I’ve just published a new page on this blog. Simply titled LOL (laugh out loud) it is a place for me to place links to funny web sites. Hopefully you’ll like some of them, and I won’t spend so long trying to remember their exact addresses. In case those few extra pixels are too far for your mouse/trackball to travel, I’ve included a copy below.

These are pages that sometimes make me laugh, other times are enough to prevent boredom from setting in too fast. Roughly in the order of predominantly funny to worth checking occasionally…

XKCD – Web Comic that is consistently funny. Geeks likely to appreciate it a little more 🙂
I Can Has Cheez Burger – Cats. Pictures of cats. Pictures of cats with captions. Might not be your cup of tea if you’re not a pet person.
I Has A Hotdog – Like I Can Has Cheez Burger but with dogs and other animals.
There I Fixed It – Bodge it. Snap it. Post it.
Pundit Kitchen – News related photos with captions.
Probably Bad News – Journalists making mistakes.
Item Not As Described – Weird and unsavoury items found in the classifieds (often ‘free’ and sourced from CraigsList).
Pwned On Camera – Pwned. Like owned, but spelt in a l33t way. People caught acting inappropriately on camera.
ROFL Razzi – Celebrity photos with captions.
This Is Photo Bomb – Basically someone appears in a shot who isn’t supposed to. Funnier than this description makes it sound.
Awkward Family Moments – A bit hit and miss. Photos from the last few decades where the poses are contrived, and the families a little weird.
Up Next In Sports – Sports photos with funny-ish captions.
Once Upon A Win – Nostalgia. Not comedy, but reminiscing about toys and sweets from your childhood.
Graph Jam – Also hit and miss, this site attempts to tell jokes in the form of a graph. Sometimes the material isn’t funny, other times people don’t seem to know what sort of graph could be used.
Engrish Funny – Spelling mistakes, normally from countries where English is a second (at most) language.
Totally Looks Like – Look-a-likes, in the vein of those found in the Letters page of Private Eye.

So why post them all? Although a lot of them link to each other in their headers, some aren’t in the same group and I always forget the exact address. I’ll add more when I get back to our home PC.

On The Other Hand…

Category: In The MediaChrisM @ 7:33 pm

I’ve written a few times about Special Constables (back in Britain) on this blog, and not been entirely complimentary to the profession as a whole. Overall, they do not get a lot of respect in the UK, and sometimes this is understandable. However, I wanted to post a quick link to a forum post that I found to be an interesting read – What I Did On Duty over at the PoliceSpecials.com forum. Whilst I still believe that there are some specials who do their service no honour, it was interesting to find out what the average (or at least average internet dwelling) special’s shift was like.

A New Kazakh Experience

Category: Kazakhstan,PersonalChrisM @ 5:32 pm

We have the honour of being order number 20 for a relatively new start up business over here in Astana, Kazakhstan. Although America and Britain (and by extension, I’d assume the mainland European Continent?) have had supermarket deliveries available for years, this company seems to be the first in this city at least. I’ll not provide a link until we’ve seen the goods arrive (sometime in the next 2 hours) in one piece, with the correct money being charged, but if all goes well, I’m happy to recommend them. I’ve already passed on their details to one friend over here, so I’ll compare experiences to make sure any good/bad points aren’t isolated.
