Quick Photo Post

Category: Anna's Photos,Personal,PicturesChrisM @ 8:29 pm

Please excuse lack of accompanying text and that the photos aren’t cropped/WB sorted etc.
Everything fine here, we have still been reading all the messages from people who’ve texted, twitter, facebook msged, blog comments, sent real world cards & pressies etc., we’ve just not had the time to respond yet. Please do know your thoughts have been received and appreciated 🙂

Photos with Mum & John in them are on John’s camera’s card still, I’ll try and grab them later tonight/tomorrow. I’ll also try to title the pics at some point.

Sorry it took a while to get the photos to you all, and thanks again for all your messages.

No News And Feedburner

Category: PersonalChrisM @ 2:33 pm

To those friends that have been contacting us frequently, asking if the baby is born yet, don’t worry, we will let everyone know soon after the event. If you don’t receive an SMS from me v.often, check the blog, my twitter account or facebook for updates.

On a separate note, fetching data from feedburner.com seems to be slowing the blog down a lot right now. If this behaviour is the same in a couple of hours, I’ll temporarily remove the offending widgets. You should find that all post info is displayed BEFORE the slowdown anyway. I think I’ve finished fiddling with the sidebars now, so what you see today should be stable for a while now 🙂

10th February T +1 ?

Category: Friends,PersonalChrisM @ 2:53 pm

Irina is still doing fine, but no signs of a quick drive to the hospital have yet been observed. Not a great deal to write now, just wanted to keep people updated, as some have been asking what the situation is now. AlexC is now coming over to Britain from Australia for three weeks, which is brilliant, as she’ll be able to meet our baby, we’ll be able to meet Mat for the first time ever, and we’ll see her for the first time since she came to Astana back in 2007(?).
As you may have noticed, I’ve been experimenting with different ways to update this blog, facebook, twitter and so on simultaneously, from a mobile device. This has led to a few v.short posts, sometimes without explanation. If something makes no sense whatsoever, it is probably a tweet @ someone that didn’t work out again 🙂

Seb Sees Clydach

Category: Friends,Personal,PicturesChrisM @ 1:41 am

I went and picked up Seb from Cirencester on Tuesday, briefly meeting up with Con as well, who had to work sadly. Anyway, we’ve not managed to go out and see a great deal of the lovely countryside around here, but then again we rarely did that sort of thing back in Glos. anyway, so no change 🙂 We also managed to miss Con’s set online, but we’re hoping we can download it from the site. I’ll try and remember to post back here with the links when we find them. For our friends who haven’t met Seb, or visitors to this site who don’t know me, here is a quick pic grabbed from facebook (one of his other brothers was getting married that day).

Seb

Seb

I’ll try and find a more natural looking of him soon 🙂

Full Internet Access Has Returned

Category: Internet Connections,Kazakhstan,PersonalChrisM @ 6:05 pm

Over some of the weekend, for some reason, I was not able to access most websites. I could visit google.com, run searches and check in on Facebook etc. (hi Claire/Wednesday 🙂 ).
However, trying to visit most other sites, even the News section on google resulted in pages not being found. I checked the sites themselves were OK by visiting them via a proxy server, however I wasn’t happy logging into this blog to create posts, as this would leave my user name and password in some log somewhere. Anyway, all things appear back to normal now. If any other Megaline customers in Astana read this, did you have the same problems, or was it restricted to those who connect via the company that looks after the flats on SaryArka?

Gymnastics

Category: VideosChrisM @ 2:54 am

My thanks to Alex’s Mat for spotting this video (he posted it to friends on Facebook originally).
Anyway, not one of those cliche 13yr-old-falls-off-a-balance-beam vids, nor someone jumping around with a twirly ribbon (seriously, how is that an Olympic event?).
No, we have Damien Walters mucking about on camera, and whilst some of the comments left on YouTube indicate he may have an ego issue, this could just be jealousy, anyway, take a look…

I love the spins off the wall, where he reverses the usual direction, and also where his tumbles result in him facing 180 degrees opposite from where he started. (OK, I know I don’t have a clue what the correct terminology is, but take a look, and you’ll get the idea hopefully.)

Posting Will Ease Off For A Few Days

Category: PersonalChrisM @ 1:52 am

I still have quite a few things I need to crack on with before Irina and I head off to Amsterdam for my birthday, and then on to Britain. In an attempt to keep my few loyal readers, well… loyal, I’ll be posting some mildly funny/entertaining videos over the next few days, as this doesn’t require much though on my part. Believe it or not, this blog, and related research takes up a fair amount of my working day!
Anyway I have already written two or three posts for each day I’m actually away (19th April – 5th May). By adjusting the timestamp, it should hopefully appear as though I’m still dutifully blogging away each day. I will try and check in here, as well as my e-mail, when possible, but if you have not left a comment here before, it is possible that approval of new comments may take two or three days.
If you have commented here before, unless you include my blacklisted words, your comments should appear immediately.
Anyway, enjoy the next few videos over the coming days, and my thanks to ChrisD’s facebook friends for originally bringing them to my attention 🙂

Congrats To Con

Category: FriendsChrisM @ 5:26 pm

Conrad Robbins (aka Hydrophonics) made most of us laugh when we heard he was planning to take part in the London Marathon this year. There was even a facebook group set up specifically for people who didn’t think he would make it.

Well, he did. I don’t know the exact time Scratch that, click here for his official result – 4 hours 57 minutes and 4 seconds !

You can still donate, and if you are a UK tax payer, the charity can claim some extra money from the government.

Hydrophonics Needs YOU!

Category: PersonalChrisM @ 5:41 pm

As my attempt to send the tune to friends on Facebook mysteriously failed, I thought I’d add a post here instead. Click the play button below to catch Hydrophonics (Con) latest uploaded mix, and if you like it, vote here. (Link removed – competition over, and page has been removed anyway).

Further IMPROVement

Category: VideosChrisM @ 7:45 pm

Following on from the earlier post, we have some more videos connected with ImprovEverywhere.

First we have another pre-arranged freeze, over at Waterloo Station (London). I could be wrong, but I think the British ones were organized via a Facebook group. I had a quick look and couldn’t find one for Kazakhstan yet. Can’t imagine there being many takers here, and flash mobs may not go down to well with the authorities…

Something a little different here – “Look Up More” – this is the extended version of the video, showing the arrangements and co-ordination planning before hand, intermixed with the final result. A lot of effort seems to have gone into this piece of performance art…

Finally, to ensure no claims of favouritism can be made, we have a ‘freeze’ video, taken from Canada’s CNBC news program, with a report on the shopping mall freeze.
