Tom’s Blog

Category: FriendsChrisM @ 3:04 am

Readers of our friend Tom’s blog ( http://lifeof2me.blogspot.com/ ) may have noticed that posting has slowed down a little recently. With his multiple projects (teaching, making and selling his clothing lines and contra dancing), it looks as though letting us know about all the New York movers and shakers has taken a back seat. Can’t really blame him, I’m just looking forward to reading more regular posts when the next sales season is over 🙂
You’ll need to click the August and July archive links for the foreign (Aghanistan and Tajikistan) posts. Quite why blogspot/blogger blogs don’t have the Previous/Older post link (like most WordPress blogs) at the bottom of each page I’ve never understood. Maybe it is a theme dependent option, and most don’t have it?

Cold Neighbours

Category: In The MediaChrisM @ 7:07 pm

I’ve just finished reading a BBC article on the plight of Tajiks (Tajikistan is south of Kazakhstan, not quite bordering it) who are really suffering right now. They have apparently had a severe winter so far, and with the rivers frozen, obviously their HEP plants are unable to work and produce much needed electricity. Not much to add to this personally, I just wanted to highlight the news, and provide a link to the report.

[edit]

Forgot to link to this article as well, sorry.

Looking for news in the Stans?

Category: Kazakhstan,PersonalChrisM @ 2:34 am

Central Asia Now is a relatively new site dedicated to covering current affairs, well, in the Central Asian region.

Central Asia
In the above image, Central Asia is apparently shown as any country that on top the thick red line…

Central Asia now specifically covers Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The site will aggregate news from the region, and once every couple of weeks will feature an original article on matters effecting those who live within Central Asia. Topics that will be covered include democracy, economics, human rights, energy, strategic issues, the military, governance and religious questions.

This post is not sponsored at all, just thought that as this is a Kazakhstan blog, readers might appreciate the heads up on the site…

the site’s address is http://www.centralasianow.org , but I’ve removed the live link for now, as the site is down.
