Jason’s PC is apparently broken right now, so I doubt we’ll see any new YouTube videos for a while. I have been catching up with his back catalogue of films, and drafting posts on those I though people who hadn’t been to Kazakhstan, or even some locals, might find interesting.
This one is on Russian vs. Kazakh schools, here in Kazakhstan. If you have no interest in Central Asia or children, you can probably skip this one. That said, if those conditions apply to you, I’d probably wonder why you’re reading this site in the first place 🙂

Mega Crash
Four more general pictures, then Aunty Sveta will be happy again, as I’ll be posting more photos of Anna 🙂
This large screen plays adverts 24/7 facing the road, in the Mega shopping centre’s car park. It is something to stare at whilst waiting for the traffic lights to change colour, but I occasionally wonder how many accidents it has caused so far. Anyway, other than wondering whether it received its video files through the internet (hmmm, what could that lead to?), I also wondered what sort of system was used to run the display. As the photo shows, we can be pretty sure it is a Russian language edition of Windows (XP?) 😉

Speeching English Is Easy, Innit?
Due to a friend already having an overloaded diary when it comes to teaching English over here in Astana, I will hopefully have a couple of new pupils soon. Although there are obviously a lot of Russians and Kazakhs that teach English as a foreign language here in Kazakhstan, there are not that many native English speakers with enough free time to have live chats, to try and improve the language skills of a pupil who has often not conversed with someone who speaks English as their first language.
I’ll obviously not be posting their personal details, but they work at KazMunayTeniz, which should look pretty good on my résumé, as my previous pupils have been school age or retired pilots etc. Whilst it was interesting teaching them, to teach people from a state run company should add a few brownie points 🙂

Content Is Missing?
I know, I know, a whole page of the blog with nothing but my Xbox 360 moaning it hasn’t been played in over a week (not true, it just isn’t connected to the internet here), and a few random tweets. The reason for the lack of ‘normal’ (lmao) posts? We have been house/pet sitting whilst the in-laws are on holiday in Turkey, and as the PC is in the same room as where Irina, Anna and I sleep, I haven’t wanted to wake anyone up. (Friends/long term readers will remember that most stuff gets written, if not actually published, in the small wee hours). Combine that with rebuilding a friend’s PC (they finally bought a legal copy of Russian Windows XP (a real rarity over here in Kazakhstan), during which I decided flash drives were an unsuitable method of backing up his 64Gb worth of My Documents!
So, we’re returning home to our own flat soon (unless you’re a well read burglar, in which case I’m writing this sat in our own flat, polishing the shot gun and setting the trip-wires and bear traps), and I hope I’ll be posting more regularly again soon. Apart from anything else, I have a large collection of links sat in Firefox’s tabs, an even larger one lurking in my bookmarks in Firefox, and a few Anna photos to publish as well.

Swings And Slings
Anna had one day off being photographed, so this makes these shots from the 15th August. Only a fortnight behind with these photos now 🙂
Aunty Sasha was still at the in-laws, as were we, and wanted to spend as much time with Anna as possible, before she returned to St. Petersburg in Russia. We took a few shots of Anna in her new baby swing, with Aunty Sasha on the grown ups’ swing, and finally one of Anna and Irina in her baby sling.

Blinnay Have Returned
Ira’s Mum has made pancakes again. Yum. OK, they are more like scotch pancakes (so not called blinnay in Russian, but I’ve forgotten the word Ira told me earlier, and she is asleep right now), but I like both types equally. Anyway, I happen to know there are a few left on the kitchen table downstairs, so the next time I nip out (writing these posts in the bedroom) for a cigarette, think I’ll grab a couple 🙂 That said, I’ve recently noticed that Anna can actually partially perch on my stomach when I’m sat up, so maybe I’ll just grab one pancake tonight.
