Truly Back At Ours Again

Category: PersonalChrisM @ 1:44 am

Having been at the in-laws for around a fortnight, we should be moving all our stuff over Monday morning, with the idea of actually moving in the same day. Whilst it has been great to see and live with Ira’s parents again, it will be nice to be moving back into our own space, even if our daily routine doesn’t actually change that much (babies are a universal modifier of regular activities I guess 🙂 ). I’ll try and grab a photo of all the boxes, suitcases and bags that are being carted over, as quite how we’ve managed to accumulate so much stuff is a mystery.

Oh, one final thing before I head to bed… Any biology geeks out there, could you double check my calculations for me? We have just started using tonight a mosquito killer liquid. You can see it second from the bottom here – http://www.komarov.net/nezh.html . I looked up the World Health Organization’s report on the active ingredient here – http://www.who.int/whopes/quality/en/Esbiothrin_spec_eval_Oct_2004.pdf . If I read it correctly, a baby weighing around 6-7 kilos should have absolutely no problem with the substance, given that the bottle lasts approx. 45 days (not sure whether thats on a 24/12/8 hour usage cycle in any one day), contains 30ml, of which the chemical makes up approx 1.7% .
Anyway, enough of the maths/chemistry/biology for now, I need some sleep as Ira’s Dad’s workers are coming around 10am to give us a hand shifting this lot.

Birthday Meal With Dad And Nick

Category: Personal,PicturesChrisM @ 9:19 pm

Again, I think I may have used PockeTwit to provide a quick update at the time (25th April), but here are the proper photos. Dad and Nick came over for a meal to celebrate my 30th birthday. Whilst living in Clydach, any time I drove into Swansea, I’d pass a restaurant that looked interesting. TBH, anywhere that sells New York Italian food is likely to get a thumbs up from me, and whilst not exactly a dinner jacket required sort of establishment, the food was delicious. Anna behaved very well, and the next time we’re back in Wales, I’ll gladly be heading over to Frankie & Benny’s.

Arriving In Kazakhstan

Category: Anna's Photos,PersonalChrisM @ 1:48 am

No, we didn’t pop back to Britain on the quiet, this post is the first to feature proper (non-camera phone) pictures of Anna since her arrival here in Kazakhstan.

This was taken on the 14th May 2009, when we were grabbing a few hours rest at a hotel next to the airport in Almaty, before flying over to Astana.

Last Known UK Photo Of Anna?

Category: Anna's Photos,PersonalChrisM @ 1:34 am

Unless I took some on my phone, here we have a shot from Dad’s camera, when he and Nick met us at the airport, after John very kindly drove us all the way down to Heathrow. Despite over eager rule enforcement from the coffeeshop staff re. exact seating positions allowed, it was great to see Dad and my ‘little’ brother one more time, and we are looking forward to hopefully seeing everyone again this Christmas.
So, here we have it, the last British picture (14th May) before we play catch up with all the Kazakh photos…

Last Studio Shots

Category: Anna's Photos,PersonalChrisM @ 1:05 am

hmm, musn’t forget to start clearing the backlog of videos as well. Anyway, back on track, these photos are from the last time we were in John’s studio before we left for Astana. 13th May to be precise, so one day before we encountered the joys of BMI flights 🙁
The first photo is still my desktop wallpaper, and looks pretty good on the Sony TV when in use, and the second is used by my mother-in-law as her PC’s wallpaper 🙂

Before I forget, John has started adding a few new posts to his Celt Photographic blog (click the monthly archives to skip to the posts), and also more new photos to the Celt Photographic gallery. Some images are NSFW if your boss doesn’t like nipples on monitors.

Catch Up Post

Category: Friends,PersonalChrisM @ 12:39 pm

There haven’t been a lot of ‘real’ blog posts recently, with tweets from my phone being the normal method of updates. So, just to sync everyone at the same time, we went to see Dad on Saturday, over in Evesham. Luckily the car didn’t need any major work done to it (it was making a noise like an Austin Metro engine when you turned the steering wheel), just a top up of the power assist steering fluid. This meant I was happy driving on the motorway with Anna and Ira, without worrying about breaking down or exploding 🙂
It was great seeing Dad, Aunty Chris & Bob again, and to catch up with what has been going on. I hope to see Dad and my brother Nick (and maybe Roz?) before we leave for Kazakhstan on the 14th. From there, we moved onto Cheltenham on Sunday, to see some friends who had not yet met Anna. Irina managed to find a great deal on a room at the Queens hotel in Chelt, which I’d never been in before, let alone had a room. TBH, the rooms, staff and decor were all fine, but I think the reputation of the place had led us to think it would be a lot better. Ira #2’s boyfriend (Andy) instantly became a demi-god when he took a quick glance at our pushchair, diagnosed and then fixed the fault within a couple of minutes – the brake had been semi-engaged since the day it arrived, which meant pushing it and Anna uphill was un-necessarily arduous. Unfortunately, whilst returning from town the brake had fully engaged, so we had to half carry the thing up the Promenade. Silver linings in a cloud and all that though, as if it hadn’t finally engaged like that, we’d not have mentioned it to Andy & therefore struggled over in Kazakhstan pushing it along stony tracks etc.
So what plans today? Sort out a couple of things for John’s upcoming 60th birthday, help look after Anna, generally not get in the way of Irina who is packing boxes to send ahead of us for Astana & try and check out the rest of the demos I downloaded over the weekend for the XBox 360.

Anna’s First Ever Trip To Cheltenham

Category: Anna's Photos,PersonalChrisM @ 2:55 am

After leaving Dad’s in Evesham, we went on into Cheltenham, where Irina had managed to find a good deal on a room at the Queens hotel. Whether the room was not as plush as their standard rooms, or it was simply a case that the hype accorded to this hotel increases your expectations, we couldn’t be sure. Nothing wrong with the place per se, just not as ‘wow’ as we expected. We met up with Ira’s friends from when she worked at PKL and had a nice meal at Cafe Rouge. From there we went on to meet up with the other Irina and her boyfriend, as well as ChrisD, Steve and Emma, over in the beer gardens.
