Anna Pink Dress And Turning On Tummy

Category: Anna's Photos,Anna's Videos,PersonalChrisM @ 9:55 pm

Displaying both one of her pretty pink dresses, and her ever improving neck muscles and general co-ordination, here we have a couple of photos and four videos shot on the 10th July, at the in-laws.

Although not yet crawling (occasional shuffles backwards seem to be haphazard), Anna really has got travelling by rolling down to a tee – take your eyes off her for 10 seconds and she’ll be at the other end of the blanket we put on the living room carpet for her 🙂 (The things on the floor in the videos is just a small sheet, the blanket I refer to is a king-size duvet type thing.)

Taking Yourself Not Very Seriously

Category: Anna's Photos,PersonalChrisM @ 3:47 pm

This was to be a post showing Dana and Asen with their Alan and our Anna, but then I remembered they asked for their photos to not be made public after the wedding a few years back, so instead have a look at these shots instead…

These were shot on the 9th July.

Metaphorical Warts

Category: Anna's Photos,PersonalChrisM @ 2:23 am

The 3rd of July saw Anna transfixed by something on TV after her bath, and me either looking grumpy or tired. However, as there haven’t been a lot of photos of our beautiful daughter with her Dad, I wanted to put this one up – warts and all…

Anna Bottle Feeding Again

Category: Anna's Photos,Anna's Videos,PersonalChrisM @ 1:56 am

The day after (2nd July) the tightrope walking in the park, we decided to try bottle feeding again with Anna. Back in Britain she had taken to the bottle brilliantly when we had tried, but we forgot to change the teat when we next tried over here in Kazakhstan. This meant the flow was too slow, and she got very frustrated with it. Wanting to ensure that I could feed Anna if her café mummy wasn’t around to do the honours, we decided to try once more. The following video and picture were shot at the time.

Not Very Tolerant Police

Category: Anna's Photos,Kazakhstan,Personal,PicturesChrisM @ 4:22 pm

OK, slightly dramatic post title, given that all the policemen did was refuse to allow us access to the park whilst the International Religious Tolerance Conference were being entertained near the entrance, but it did add an extra half hour or so to our attempt to get into the park with Anna. They were at least very polite, rather than gruff and menacing, as I had expected some of them to be.
Anyway, we walked around (once we’d found a side entrance not guarded) whilst preparations for Astana Day carried on in the park, but don’t worry, no repetitive yurt shots this time 🙂 We had previously only caught the very end of some acts that had an area set aside for them within the park. Whilst my Russian wasn’t very good that day, I could tell when the performers’ MC had asked for any donations into a hat, as a lot of people who had previously been enthralled suddenly discovered what the time was, and had to make a sharp exit. Anyway, this time we were lucky, as despite our detour, we didn’t miss much of the show. The acts were all from Uzbekistan I think, with the old guy on the tightrope easily having the most charisma, even from 30 foot up in the air, dancing away and smiling at everyone, he was definitely a seasoned performer. Enough of the wittering, onto the pictures… (Oh, click the link after the first few pics to see more, if you’re viewing this post on the front page.)

Anna’s Walk In Astana Park

Category: Anna's Videos,PersonalChrisM @ 11:54 am

Just a few days (1st July) before Astana Day (also apparently referred to as Capital Day?) Anna, Ira and I all went for a walk through Astana Park, which is just across the road from us. You can see in the background the ‘castle walls’ (OK, no idea what they were supposed to be exactly, but with a brick type effect, and ‘ramparts’ on top, you get the idea. This is the area that stalls selling local products were based. (OK, I say local, but a lot of the people seemed to be from Uzbekistan or Kyrgyzstan). More info on the Astana Day celebrations in a later post.

Gwen Guarding & Ineffective Curries

Category: Personal,PicturesChrisM @ 11:48 pm

Just under a week before Anna’s birth (and already almost a week since the due date), Irina is resting on the sofa at Mum & John’s in Clydach. Gwen had already been following Ira around most of the time, obviously sensing that something was a little different, and that she might appreciate the company.

A couple of days later, we had resorted to the old wives tale about hot curries bringing on labour, and so John and Ira drove off to a local respected curry house. They explained what they wanted, and although Irina seemed to enjoy the curry once they had returned home and unboxed it, unless there is a four day gap between consumption and effect, it didn’t seem to do that much.
