Shot on the same day (11th of September 2009) as the Smiling Anna At Home post from yesterday, here we have a couple of new videos for you to watch. Not really a lot of movement going on, this is really a post for the friends and family back in Britain who’ve not seen just how much Anna has changed over the months since we were last there.

Smiling Anna At Home
This photo captures how Anna looks in real life quite well. So Irina probably took it 🙂
Anyway, the 11th of September 2009 was the setting, back in our flat. You can see the blanket/duvet we put on the floor when Anna plays (to keep her away from cat hair etc.), and the sofa cushions from her room (did I mention she has moved into her own room now – big girl 🙂 ) that are just about still working as a way of stopping her from crawling away when our heads are turned. Which reminds me, we need to move the coffee table out of the living room, before she hits her head.
Anyway, back to the photo…
Ah, upon checking the folder this photo was taken from, I can see this is the first day with some videos in it. I’ll go and upload them to YouTube, and include in a separate post, as the import process to Anna’s site creates duplicate posts if I put both and photos and vids into one post (and correctly categorize it).

Farewell Summer.
Deciding to take advantage of what was then the rapidly ending of summer days in Astana, Irina, I and Anna walked across to Ali Ba Ba (the outdoor seating section of Farhi) and had a snack and a couple of drinks. Anna behaved brilliantly, probably helped by the face we were sat at the Kazakh-style tables, which are low and surrounded by cushions on a raised floor. This meant she wasn’t stuck on our laps the whole time, or in her pushchair.
Oh, and for making it easier to follow what is what when this picture is automatically imported into Anna Merriman‘s site, the photo was taken on the 9th of September 2009. 09/09/09, though not at 09:09. That would have been a little too early for all of us, and a little excessive just for obtaining a pretty time and date. That said, as the camera is still set to UK time, it thought it was 09:10 – only a minute off!

KFC In Astana!
Yes, there is indeed a branch of Kentucky Fried Chicken here in Astana, in the Mega shopping centre to be precise. For any doubters out there, below is a photo taken on the 7th of September 2009, with Anna sat in her pushchair.
Ooops, just re-checked the picture, and the yellow lighting of the fast food outlet sort of drowns out the KFC symbol. I tried playing with it in Photoshop, but to no avail. Anyway, the store is there, but no Burger King or McDonalds stores in Astana just yet, to the best of my knowledge.

Sat Up In Denim
The 4th of September 2009 saw this photo being taken of Anna sat up in her denim shorts. The shorts are actually a better fit than they look there – they were just pulled a bit high on Anna’s tummy. Since this shot, she can not only sit upright completely solo, she can also stand (whilst holding onto the sofa/toy box) a lot better, and walk around, when supported by furniture/parents 🙂
The rest of the photos will be spread out over the next week or so, so make sure you come back again. If baby photos aren’t your thing, I’ll be trying to add a few ‘normal’ posts along the way as well, so don’t go away 🙂

Autumnal walk in Astana park with Ira and Anna.
Our friend Gulnaz is coming over for tea later.

Wow, my old phone’s camera really couldn’t handle the reflected light from Anna’s clothing. It can’t shoot good photos in low light either. Picky thing…

Backwards Is The New Forwards?
hmmmm, another post where WordPress decides that I didn’t really want to use the built in gallery function, and leaves the images orphaned without a post assigned to them. Well anyway, these photos were taken on the 31st of August, and we have now finally reached the end of the backlog. Here you can see Anna starting to learn how to use objects to assist in standing up (hands near her for the inevitable wobbly moments, obviously). Although she can now roll with gay abandon, and crawl backwards, Anna still doesn’t seem to want/be able to coordinate moving forwards. However, given that forwards it same really as horizontally rotating 180 degrees, then moving backwards, she still seems able to get where she wants. Namely off the safe, clean playing area we lay down here or at the inlaws, and onto the much more interesting carpet.
To round off this post, we have a shot of Kara using Anna’s nappy changing mat as a stalking area to pounce on Muska the next time she enters the living room.

Almost There. Real Time Photos Soon!
So, given that these photos and video of Anna trying a (mixed fruit?) purée for one of the first times were taken on the 26th of August, I am only just over a week late in posting these. OK, add a few more days as I’ve scheduled this post to go live on September 6th (if I’d published them all in one go, some would have fallen off the front page of this blog straight away), but still, I’ve only one more post after this before I’ve exhausted the ‘To Do’ folder in Anna’s pictures collection sitting on my hard drive. We were sat in the kitchen, watching Anna munch on some real veggies, and decided it was time to try out this form of food, in case we ever needed something quick and easy to server her. She took to the food with no problems, and managed to get the hang of accepting a spoon of food quite quickly. Obviously, just like when she ‘eats’ whole vegetables or fruit, the majority of the food ends up on the high chair or bib, but the idea is to get her used to pushing the food around her mouth in plenty of time before weaning occurs. Enough of the witter, onto the photos and video…
