So by this time we have obviously arrived in the apartment. I took a few snaps of the place for future use (a proper review on the place will be in a separate post sometime. Given the amount of time it has taken to get these photos up, I’d not hold your breath 🙂 ). In the mean time, you can check out his site over here.

The Beginning?
Irina is pacing around the house, really quite restless right now. Not comfortable or content staying in any one place too long, we’re wondering if this is the start of anything, or still ‘just’ the warm up in the days before labour? Anyway, we’ll keep people updated if anything happens. I’m currently 33% done on clearing out some old posts that were doing nothing for this blog, and have a couple more Amsterdam posts almost complete, I’ll try and post them later…

Amsterdam 2008 Photos #2
Here we have landed a day late in Amsterdam, and met a couple of fellow forum visitors. Birthday presents were given, and this day seemed to be going a lot better than the day before, and it wasn’t even midday yet! We hopped on a tram to the general area of the apartment, and used GPS for the last few minutes walk. The last shot was how the rest of the world looked once we had arrived inside the flat and met the nice man Paul.

Amsterdam 2008 Photos – Finally
Before my life is taken over my nappies, changing mats & cute shoes, I wanted to try and catch up with tasks in real life, and bits I’d never quite got to finishing on the blog. So, here are the first of some Amsterdam April 2008 shots.
As you may remember from my ramblings at the time, a problem with flights had meant we missed the last connection from Frankfurt to Amsterdam on the 19th by mere minutes.
Anyway, we grabbed a couple of hours of sleep in a nearby hotel, got up for my Birthday and decided we would try and make today run a little better. A beautiful sight of some bunnies frolicking on the lawn below our window. Glad of the few hours rest we’d had, we got ready and headed to the airport for the first flight out Amsterdam. We were NOT going to be missing the 4.20pm meet on 4/20 at the coffeeshop 420 🙂
Anyway, more of that later, have these as a taster of the posts to come. I’ll try and put up the ones from 2007 later, with Chris and Alex…

Ali Ba Ba
Here we have Walton, Asel, Dr. Ken, David, Irina and myself, all eating out at the Ali Ba Ba restaurant in Astana, just after out return to Kazakhstan from Britain and Amsterdam. Which reminds me, I still have a lot of Amsterdam pictures hiding on one of the hard drives that need to be published along with a few coffeeshop reviews.
As you may have noticed, this blog now has a very light weight gallery plugin installed. When you click on a thumbnail, you should see the original, higher resolution image pop up in a new box. Do let me know if you encounter any problems. Smart alecs are not welcome to leave messages complaining of no images whilst using the Lynx browser ;-P

More Catchup Pictures
Another few photos this time, again taken with my phone, so the quality isn’t great.
I’m leaving the Amsterdam ones until I get the time to write some proper posts, and integrate them with the ‘proper’ camera photos and 2007’s trip.
First we have a couple of Aynak, the guard dog over at the inlaws. I realised she hadn’t featured very much at all in the 25 months or so this blog has existed. Time to rectify that oversight…
Here we have Irina proudly modelling her Mum’s wellies (gardening boots in case that is a UK English-only word) that we sourced in Britain for her.
Finally, we have what I think is a really nice photo of Ira’s Dad smiling in the garden. (I should probably point out the obvious before I get any comments from my dearly beloved… his attire was chosen for working in the muddy garden, not looking as smart as he normally does, and the beer on the table was the reward for working hard in aforementioned garden. There, think that’s all the bases covered 🙂 )

Non-Lethal – Still Offensive
Normally if I were to write a post based around Skunk, I would be talking about an upcoming trip to Amsterdam, or very occasionally about the animal itself. However, if you head on over to this article you can see why this is a little different. The Israeli police is introducing this foul smelling concoction as an alternative to other more lethal or at least dangerous weapons.
Although Israeli actions against Palestinian civilians are rarely posted on a favourable light at this blog, this appears to be a step in the right direction. Even if it is used far too early in confrontational situations, or sprayed indiscriminately into a crowd, the fact that no one is going to lose a limb, their eyesight, or loved ones, through its deployment has to be a good thing. Perhaps it is too easy to judge from afar, but if I were over there, I’m pretty sure I would prefer smelling horrendous for a few days to death or serious injury.

Pippa’s Birthday
I hope you manage to get away to Amsterdam soon, and look forward to getting utterly pissed with you meeting up again some time.

Making Joints With Any Sort Of Tobacco Will Be Outlawed
MAKING? LMAO
See this BBC article for a rather large typo, or very misinformed journalist. Although the BBC World television report did not contain this inaccuracy, the fact that the online version wasn’t checked properly is quite astounding. The idea that the Dutch are banning people from rolling their spliffs with tobacco is laughable. In case you haven’t yet heard, the Netherlands are following most of Europe by banning smoking cigarettes (and in their case alone, joints with tobacco in) in enclosed public places. I still want to know whether they expect all smokers who prefer hash to weed to use pipes, but I guess I’ll have to wait a while before returning to Amsterdam to further my research. It is a tough job writing this blog 😉
