Goose Double

Category: PicturesChrisM @ 11:43 pm

Abstruse Goose is one of the web comics I follow with interest (hat tip to Oleg for that), along with XKCD. The two images below have been sitting in my draft post of links to publish for a long time, so I thought I might as well post them now…

Caught Up With Anna’s Photos!

Category: Anna's PhotosChrisM @ 5:45 pm

I’ll need to check our camera at home (as I write this post, we are at Irina’s parents’ house, but it looks like these pictures taken on the 27th December as Oleg was visiting us before returning to Moscow, might be the latest of her. Sorry it took a while to return to almost live posting of her photos, I’ll try and stay more up to date, and mix in a little more of the usual subject matter for new posts.

Eye See You

Category: Anna's PhotosChrisM @ 9:06 am

The day after Oleg visited (making it the 16th of December), Irina and I were looking at some photos of Anna on the TV. For some reason I took a zoomed shot of her eye, and thought it looked good.

Two Spoon Anna

Category: Anna's PhotosChrisM @ 9:03 am

The WordPress image upload gallery function is playing up once more, but this time waiting around doesn’t seem to have magically re-attached these images to a post, so back to individual posting again.

Anyway, the evening of the 15th of December saw Oleg arrive, and before he got to ours, Anna had her evening meal. She has now started occasionally feeding herself with a spoon (though obviously prefers fingers), and that meal time decided that one spoon was not sufficient to transport the food 🙂

Pots Can Come Together As Well!

Category: Anna's PhotosChrisM @ 5:04 pm

Anna has recently started to notice that her stackable pots actually fit inside each other sometimes, and can therefore be put together, rather than only be dis-assembled 🙂 This photo was shot on the 14th of December, the day before Oleg came to visit.

Clean Punctuation

Category: FriendsChrisM @ 3:09 am

Calling Oleg… Calling Oleg. Are you still intending to be in Astana this October? We would love for you to meet Anna, and it would be great to see you again. What got me thinking about him today was my realization that my understanding of the correct situation to use a semi-colon really was pretty ropey; it isn’t that I haven’t a clue, simply that I often feel it is more like guess work than actual rules that I am following. I’ll probably not end up going on a tidy up of this blog, removing all the incorrect usages, nor is it likely that I’ll be going through old posts and inserting them where needed. Which reminds me, I’ve still got around 1400 posts here that need tagging. Shouldn’t take too long. LMAO.

Busy Saturday

Category: Friends,PersonalChrisM @ 9:48 pm

Busy day so far, as there have been lots of little things here and there to sort – finally received an Orange 3G SIM card for my phone today, so been trying to test speed improvement over the old EDGE/GPRS connection. The aerial guys (Hayden Communications) came and fitted an aerial, amp and wiring fitted for the house, so can get freeview in each room, and have Sky piped upstairs to the older TVs. Finished off recovering and reinstalling Kevin’s PC – put Windows Vista Ultimate on after recovering his data, and another one that is taking a while this evening is sorting Dave’s laptop. Another case of recovering data (this time through a Knoppix Live CD), wiping drives completely and then reinstalling the OS. Certainly a lot easier once you have network connectivity and can just access keyboard, mouse and display via LogMeIn. Thanks to Oleg once more for the heads up on their free service.
Anyway, hopefully all will be sorted on Dave’s laptop, or at least stable and able of carrying out the basic computing functions.

Caught Up With Shameless

Category: PersonalChrisM @ 1:08 am

Irina and I have finally finished watching series four and five of the UK TV series Shameless. The drama has been maturing, and the writer doesn’t yet seem to have run too dry with ideas for plots. Whilst some elements have seemed a little out of character, for example Norma has become a lot weaker in terms of self esteem and mental strength. Overall though, we’re really looking forward to series six. To keep us going until then, we have series one of House MD (thanks Oleg), and a bunch of films. One of which is Sicko, Michael Moore’s film on healthcare around the world, especially in America. I did a little research and found out that some people take out policies to cover what their Medicare insurance does not.

XKCD Again

Category: Personal,PicturesChrisM @ 4:06 pm

You may remember that Oleg directed me to XKCD some time back, and I posted a few of the images. Well I took a look at the more recent strips, and wanted to post a couple. Click the ‘Continue Reading’ link to see the rest.

This first one is for Irina, and her patience with me 🙂

FINALLY Finished The Recategorization

Category: Books,Personal,Windows Mobile,WordPressChrisM @ 3:21 am

It took a while, but all 1100 (or near enough) posts on this blog have now had new (mostly additional) categories assigned to them, where appropriate. If you check the category list on the left hand side, you will see the new additions. Although I could have added more, I wanted to try and keep to some sort of order, and I did not want a large collection of categories with only one or two posts. There are of course some exceptions, but mainly in areas that I intend to blog on more in the future.
Speaking of future posts, I really need to finish off the series of book reviews, as I only have another 3 or 4 left to read on my PDA. That said, I do have a few more lying around on one of the hard drives somewhere, and Oleg kindly put me in touch with a couple of sites that should be able to provide a few more. So, as we have just passed the 20,000 visits, in a little over a year, many thanks to those of you who visit. For new comers, please do check through the older posts when you get a chance, and feel free to leave comments if you have something to add or ask…
