KZBlog is going down (2)
After some thought, I have decided not to renew KZBLog’s lease. As you may have noticed, I don’t do a lot of posting here anymore. I don’t have time to blog regularly. Thus I am taking the site down–it does generate some ad revenue but not as much as it costs to keep it up. […]
The Unstylish Need Not Apply (Comments Off on The Unstylish Need Not Apply)
Two weeks ago, the President announced that, “Residents of Astana should look like residents of the capital. The inhabitants of Astana themselves agree the capital should be at the level of world capitals, including in fashion. There are many stylish clothes in the shops However, by their own admission, not all residents try to take care of their appearance.” according to 31 Channel [RUS] (via Nomad.su).
Personally, I wouldn’t mind a raise in my salary if I am expected to dress nicely. And clean sidewalks everywhere. And well-drained roads so there isn’t mud. And if we are also enforcing rules that cars in Astana should be clean, can we please clean the city up? Less mud, less construction and please stop running your car in the garage for 20 minutes before you get into it. My car gets dirtier in the garage than it does in the street and I really can’t afford the time or the cost of washing it every two days.

wordpress.com is also now blocked by KazTransCom. I assume if they are starting blocking now, it means these sites are illegal…

This is my 501st post on my blog and I am inches away from breaking 100,000 on Alexa. If only I could still get a T-shirt.
Request to Extradite Kyrgyz Officials (Comments Off on Request to Extradite Kyrgyz Officials)
According to the latest news, a number of officials under Bakiyev’s government have escaped to Kazakhstan, but now the opposition government wants to extradite them and put them on trial.
The interim government also asked Kazakhstan – where Bakiyev is believed to be hiding – to extradite his son Murat Bakiyev, former prime minister Daniyar Usenov and security services chief Murat Sutalinov, who all took refuge there amid the protests.
Does anyone closer to the situation have more information on this. Last I heard Kurmanbek Bakiyev had moved on somewhere–but if he was planning to go to Europe, I suppose the volcano might have delayed him. That would be a new angle on this volcano/flight delay story.

Why is Astana Airport saying they have no idea why flights to Europe would be cancelled and Air Astana has no update since Friday?
Male Escort Service? (1)
Men for Cheap [RUS], an article in Vremya, claims that a male escort service will soon open in Almaty, providing women with a date for hire to go to the movies, or restaurant. The reporter claims to have tried out the service and had a pleasant time, if a stressful one due to the newness of the experience.
Some commentators seem to believe that this is an April Fool’s joke but I can’t tell. The fact that the name of the company is not given is a bit suspicious of course, but that might be bad journalism. I do note that the name of the manager of the company, Svetlana Chuzhina, is also the name of a Russian actress who has an awful lot of nude scenes come up quickly when googling her name in Russian.
Any word on this dear Almatinsi? Or is it just too absurd to imagine Kazakhstani women seeking such a service?

Appears that KazTransCom has finally decided to block LJ. I can get it through proxy, not direct. Wonder if other sites are blocked.

UFO or CGI in Kazakhstan (1)
See, this is what I was talking about. Enough with the UFOs in Kazakhstan. Anyway, the video below claims to be a UFO near a power station in Kazakhstan:
What do you think? Proof that the government has been meeting with the reptilians since Roswell?
