More Bombings
This is very disturbing as two bombs went off in Atyrau. Credit was taken by the heretofore unknown Jund al-Khilafah (Knights of the Caliphate) group. The name makes them sound like they want to create some kind of Muslim state/caliphate. But so far all anyone seems to know about them is that they had earlier released a video stating that if the new religion law in Kazakhstan wasn’t repealed, there would be violence. That makes this non-expert suspect that they are a Central Asia based group. One wonders if they are really to blame for these bombings or are just taking credit for a convenient coincidence.
In any case, this is extremely disturbing news to those of us who always saw Kazakhstan as a peaceful country. While I certainly am not surprised that the new law ruffled feathers, I wouldn’t have wished this terror on anyone. The only good news is that thus far, the bombings seem to be aimed at getting attention and frightening people but not hurting anyone.

I wouldn’t agree with that at all. Among other things a lot of the acts of violence in Kazakhstan have turned out to be non-religious.
yes, only muslims blow stuff up. we all recall how the muslim IRA set off bombs in northern ireland for decades, or the muslim basque separatists who set off bombs in spain, or for that matter, the muslim president bush, who ordered the bombing of baghdad in 2003.
this is a small point but “jund” (جند) means “soldiers” not “knights”. at least that’s how i’ve always understood the word. the only word for “knights” in arabic that i know is “farasaan” (فرسان–the plural of “faaris” (فارس))
when i first heard about the bombing my first thought was that this might be a new level of violence from the ongoing labor disputes in that region, rather than islamic fundamentalism.

I suspect the bombs might be related to the strikes or someone who feels a relative got arrested wrongly.

I wonder if there isn’t an anti-Islam website that has an aggregator looking for articles that mention ‘Islam’ and ‘bomb’.
These people should be shot. They kill 1 person, we arrest 10 imams. They take a school, we close 10 mosques. Thats the only way to handle them. They are monkeys who have no morals and justify their existence with a an old book and a stupid and unrealistic idea.
Even if you were right, which I can’t accept as lots of people kill and hurt lots of other people in lots of ways all over the world, this would do nothing to help the situation. Where in the world have you ever seen an oppressed people give up because there was too much retribution against them? And why should they? If you have no empathy with them, why should they have empathy with you? If you have no tolerance for their views, why should they tolerate yours?
Please also note that NO ONE was hurt in these bombings except the bomber. As of yet, NO civilians have been killed in Kazakhstan as far as we know…a number of police have been killed which is a shame, but clearly these groups are not interested in hurting people. Escalation on the other side will only lead to escalation by the terrorists.
