Kazakh 11 Year Old Chess Grand Master!
Kazakh-based press agencies seem to quote the girl as being 11 years old, and the youngest ever Grand Master, however an international site – ChessDom states she is 12, and that the title for youngest ever remains with Yifan Hou, but whatever the case, it is certainly a huge achievement for someone so young.

Delayed And Short
I will need to ask Irina to re-watch this tomorrow, to check the accuracy of the translation, but here is the video from Channel 1 Eurasia. They popped over to our flat to ask about social networks versus real life relationships, as well as working from home. More text to follow later on, just wanted to put this up for now.
(“Delayed” because it was originally intended for broadcast on Monday, “short” because the interview was a good few minutes long, but obviously trimmed down for broadcast purposes.)

Half For Alex
I was just going to ask you on Skype, but you’re not around right now. Probably asleep. Anyway, I’ll doubtless forget when we do cross paths online, so decided to write it here. Basically, how did the one photo per day project go? In case you need some motivation to re-start/continue it, I noticed this YouTube video and thought of you…
The other half is similar, but for anyone interested in hair growth, specifically face fuzz 🙂
I’ve gone with the whole wet shaving my entire head apart from a goatee-shaped (as mentioned to Lara recently, acually Van Dyke-shaped) area around the mouth. Which will probably last until shaving frequently gets boring, and I go back to general short fuzz everywhere again 🙂

A News Hope
Rap News is back with a new video 🙂
Centred around Wikileaks, Rupert Murdoch’s media empire, Bradley Manning and the labels of “good” and “evil”, and a little snippet regarding a sealed Grand Jury (USA) indictment stating that Assange is aiding and abetting the enemy that I want to check out later – I’ve somehow missed that in my online reading. Something else to look into is Wikileak’s “foundation stone” referred to by Gillard’s character. Any readers here able to help out? I’ll look it up later.
The line “giving me the power to make or crush political careers” seems pretty spot on, when you consider the kowtowing done by both sides of the political spectrum to the media barons in the last couple of decades.
“The truth is a virus and courage is contagious”. I wish life was that simple, and that this held to be true more often.
A little trivial criticism of the video is the mask they created for Rupert Murdoch’s character, possibly one of their weakest, unless he has jowl lines that split like that around the mouth area. I’d google image him to check, but don’t fancy looking at his face more than necessary!
Finally, did they autotune the (real) Wikileaks spokesperson, to blend him into the track a little better, or is his voice really like that? Not important, I realise, I’m just interested.

PS To the people I was supposed to meet up with this past week, I apologise for wimping out and staying at home, but this cold/mini-flu/man-flu has hit hard. Hoping to recover by Friday for the concert, and come what may, I’ll be attending the Alt QBP this Sunday.

Ellie Returns!
The following track was featured on this blog around this time last year, as the soundtrack to a freerunning acadamy’s video. Listening to a Skillrex album last night reminded me to check which Ellie Goulding tracks I had, which turned up this Bassnectar remix once more. Found it on YouTube and so decided to force it upon my readers once more!

STIUTK Again
I came across these two covers of the Walk Off The Earth’s cover of Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know, and finally relented by posting them up here (I’ve been watching quite a few versions, but these two stood out because of the language difference in the first, and the instrument used in the second.

Swinging House & Video
Remembered that because I have the TwitterTools plugin disabled right now (still got a couple of thousand posts to manually tag, and with the plugin activated, each newly tagged post would initiate a tweet) that a few tweets and associated pictures have not yet made it to this blog…

And here we have a couple of quick videos I shot whilst attempting to compare direct YouTube uploads to videos sent to PockeTwit’s configured video service (I had to change from posterous as there are still “technical issues” when trying to use their domain here in Kazakhstan). The first is lower resolution, via PockeTwit, with the second one being from YouTube.
Finally, there is this video shot in Hapyland (the renamed Babylon children’s play area in Mega). I had already taken Anna on her first ever dodgems (bumper cars) ride, but she wanted to go again, so Irina took over driving duties. (Luckily) Anna couldn’t reach the pedals, so she was a passenger with occasional steering assistance. In true Kazakh style, one naughty driver can be seen using her mobile phone as she drives 🙂

Having turned the plugin back on, it apparently picks up old tweets and automatically publishes them here, sort of making this post a little redundant. As I’ve now written this out and embedded the pictures, I’ll just leave the old tweets as plain text, and publish this as planned.
