Yes, there is indeed a branch of Kentucky Fried Chicken here in Astana, in the Mega shopping centre to be precise. For any doubters out there, below is a photo taken on the 7th of September 2009, with Anna sat in her pushchair.
Ooops, just re-checked the picture, and the yellow lighting of the fast food outlet sort of drowns out the KFC symbol. I tried playing with it in Photoshop, but to no avail. Anyway, the store is there, but no Burger King or McDonalds stores in Astana just yet, to the best of my knowledge.

Yea we have had KFC here for a while not quite as good as in the states (not that great there either.) I am just waiting for the one fast food place I did actually frequent Taco Bell, should be here since both Bell and KFC are owned by Pepsi. We got Pizza Hut another Pepsi chain couple months ago, me and the wife went to check it out was so funny, everything was so high class and fancy. Waiters with full aprons and button up shirts, quite the opposite of your average US Pizza Hut witch is dark and run by 16 y/o pimple faced pot heads.

Up market pizza hut? Weird concept, the UK ones aren’t exactly known for their classiness.

FYI (Astana people) there is also a Rostik KFC on Manas Street, Astana opposite the two car washes and the new petrol station with the HUGE forecourt. If you go later in the evening they tend to run out of chicken pieces though (and then it’s chicken burger only). The place was a car wash about 6 months ago – LOL
re: Pizza Hut, in UK they’re not luxury but definitely a step above fast food and quality of the pizzas usually good. Staff generally smart and friendly (OK so we were living in Guildford)

I’m generally up for a chicken burger instead of pieces anyway, so less og an issue for me 🙂 Thanks for the info.
Agreed re. Pizza Hut vs. McDs etc., however compared to Bella Pasta, independent stores and the like, they aren’t exactly cordon bleu.
