For anyone new to the blog, this post is a continuation of photos taken in Amsterdam around my birthday in 2008. Irina booked a holiday there, and came with me again 🙂
Anyway, following the boat ride, we decided to try out one form of the cycle-powered taxi services available, to take us towards Vondel Park, and specifically the Blue Teahouse (Blauwe Theehuis ??? need to go and double check the spelling). As we zoomed along (I felt sorry for the man powering the machine when we had to stop and then start again at traffic lights on the occasional incline you’ll find, with my bulk on his machine), Ira spotted a most unusual modified bicycle, and we asked the owner if he could slow down for half a minute to enable us to grab a quick photo. In other cities, perhaps my Britishness would have prevent me from attempting such an intrusion in another person’s life, but this was Amsterdam, and I don’t think you ride something like this if you particularly want to be incognito 🙂

I think these other shots are all in and around the Blue Teahouse, and as they have outdoor seating, as long as you’re not in peoples faces, you can quite happily roll and spark up a spliff 🙂
This is the final shot for this post, a busker with a cello (??? double bass? I’m not very good with recognising instruments, sorry). His entire act – the music, singing, attire and general demeanour were all great, but we sadly weren’t around the area for very long that day.
Keep your eyes peeled for part 10 of these Amsterdam 2008 pictures, as we have the second canal boat tour, this time at night, though obviously again with the St. Nicholas boat club – Lemming and his partner turned up, so I was alone schmoking this time 🙂
