Next time we get over to Swansea (well Clydach to be precise), I need to run through a few processes with John, to do with his new blog. He originally had one hosted with wordpress.com, but decided to buy a domain name and have the extra freedom (and headaches π ) that having his own server to host the files would entail. So, if you’ve not yet made it over to Celt Photographic yet, take a moment to check it out. Although some sections are still work in progress, the main change is that the front page will be an area to display his photographs, although the actual blog posts (which apparently will improve in their frequency) are still accessible. We also have a coppermine photo gallery to play with on a related domain, but as I’ve not delved into that before, I’ll wait until we’re sat in the same room – some things are just more easily done in the ‘real’ world.

Lol, and I thought I was bad! I haven’t checked out John’s blog since before I came to Australia but it seems he has only written one post since then π I won’t feel so guilty now though I guess I do have a much bigger reason for sharing my life online seeing as I am half way across the world. I know my family and close friends appreciate the updates if no one else.
By the way, just thought I would mention that when I clicked on your link to John’s blog it directed me straight there, away from your sight, instead of opening in a new tab… tsk tsk, you obviously haven’t got the ‘Zap New Window’ plugin activated have you?

He has been busy with real world tasks, but I know he recently re-acquainted himself with the admin interface, and I’m hoping when (by the time?) we visit him and Mum in April, he’ll be posting a little more regularly, at the very least as a way of putting some fresh photos there…
Oh, and thanks for the heads up on links opening in the same window – when I changed hosts, I checked, and because of the way firefox is configured, links opened in a new tab. I was slack and didn’t check it on someone else’s PC or with IE, so assumed WP had had a code change to enforce this. Plugin now installed and activated.
PS Some things have never changed since school – too much lip, attitude, and tsk tsking at your teachers ;=p

Okay, and what if I want to open the link in the _same_ tab?

You’re not allowed. That would be rude. lmao.
Seriously? Don’t know. Have you tried modifying the click with a Ctrl/Alt/Shift or combo of the three?
Failing that, if you really want, you could obviously always right click the link, select copy, and Ctrl+V it into the address bar.

Thanks to the plugin, your link is not a simple a href=”xxx” target=”_new” tag, but a whole javascript overriding the onclick event and doing evil things with my browser. So all I can is disabling the javascript at all.
My point is that one should be able to predict if the link is going to open in a new window. Default behaviour was always the same-window, which is easily overridable (hold ctrl or shift). The other one is harder to override, and the worst is when one cannot distinguish which behaviour the link has.

hmm, I’ll think about this one. Then probably forget all about it.
Then remember it and disable the plugin.
Then a couple of months later Alex will remind me about a plugin I used to have, I’ll forget why it was removed, and the cycle will continue…

Some people [weasel words] believe websites should open external links in the same windows. Some believe they should not. Itβs your right to choose for your site, of course. I just explained my point. π

Thanks for the explanation π
