A Month Of Random Contacts…

During the last month or so, I have been contacted by a number of people, all related to Kazakhstan strangely enough. First we had someone who has built a plane and called it Berkut (which is also the name of a vodka over here), an English guy moving to Astana who wanted some more information about satellite TV and supermarkets, an Australian guy who is moving here in December, with his Russian wife, and finally an Indian (apologies if incorrect, his surname sounds Hindu to me) architect, living in New York who designed the local Cinema City complex (he wanted some photos of it, as his current ones weren’t too good).
I’m hopefully passing the vodka on to an American friend, so the plane builder can celebrate the flight with a suitably named drink, we’re looking forward to meeting some new faces here in Astana at some point, and the architect has been put in touch with Tom, who has better camera skills than me, so should have some better shots than those captured last night at Tiflis.
Anyway, they all made contact through finding this blog, so a big thanks to the search engines out there who are spidering away :)

Buying / Selling Property in NY?

If you are on the look out for an apartment, or wish to sell your current one, then New York real estate agents are obviously your first port of call.
It is refreshing to see a company who believes investing in a high quality web site is worth the time and money. So often when browsing sites in this sector of the market, the site itself looks like nothing more than an online digital version of the sort of flyer you get mailed to your letterbox. Not so with Prudential Douglas Elliman - the site looks crisp and clean, meaning getting to the data you need does not take long, but the actual information offered is exactly what you need to arm yourself with before dipping your toes in NY’s housing market.
From market reports broken down by specific areas of New York, to handy resources and exclusive info on deals available to the ‘priviliged’ members of society, all you need to do is sign up for an account today!

USA Bound?

I have mentioned it before, but if we were ever to take a holiday in America, there are two states I would particularly like to visit. First would have to be New York, for all the obvious touristy reasons, as well as to say hello to a couple of friends over there. Second would be Florida, though preferably not when it is too hot. For people considering visiting Orlando rental homes can make a lot of sense - all the necessities (and luxuries :) ) you come to expect in your own home, without any of the hassles normally associated with living in a home - so no hoovering, dusting etc. - the best of both worlds…

NY Hotels

When searching for accommodation in New York Hotels are usually the first choice in tourists minds. Whilst there are obviously hotels aimed at a wide range of budgets and requirements, with such competition between the many hotels in New York, there are some great deals to be had.
One thing I have learnt from my research on Amsterdam is just how important it can be to get an idea of where everything is situated with reference to other places you want to visit. Although many sites have small maps indicating their address, the Real Travel site lists the New York Hotels alongside a mash up of their database and Google Maps, meaning you can see where exactly your preferred New York Hotels are situated. I had never realised just how geometrical the street layout was in NYC - it looks a little like Milton Keynes! Anyway, you will also find links to blogs and specific posts on the city, should you wish to hear about life in the Big Apple from a personal angle.

Reed vs. Roman + Backgammon = Confusion?

If the post title confuses you, please do read on. If it doesn’t confuse you, perhaps you’re already aware that the online suppliers of a backgammon game (Backgammon Masters) are proud to be sponsoring the Russian-born, Israeli-raised, UK-based boxer Roman Greenberg. His next fight is against Damon Reed, and if Roman’s previous match against Michal Simms, back in March this year, is anything to go by, the spectators, be they ring side, or watching on their pay-per-view channel, will be on the very edge of their seats. The last match went 10 rounds over in New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Roman’s spokesperson was quite frank about this upcoming fight, explaining that “Reed will provide Roman with the toughest test of his impressive unbeaten career so far.”
If Roman Greenburg fights well, there are rumours he may have a chance at taking a pop at Vitali Klitschko in the second boxer’s come back fight. Backgammon Masters have been proud major sponsor’s of Mr Greenburg since his very early days, and it looks as though their faith is paying off, as the coverage attributed to the boxer is bound to bring the company further into the spotlight, and therefore attract more players to their online backgammon web site.

What To Do In NYC?

Many years ago I almost went to America to meet someone I met on the internet; in the end, I met Irina, and so that plan never came to fruition. Obviously given the choice between a trip to New York City and not meeting Ira, I would choose my wife every time, but if I had made it over there, I would have liked to check out some of the New York City Sightseeing Tours that are available.

Luckily, CitySightsNY has all the details on coach, bus and even helicopter tours around Manhattan, cruises around the New York harbour. If you would like to travel a little further afield, they also deal in excursions to the ‘Amish Country’, Washington DC, Philadelphia Boston, and Woodbury Premium Outlets Centre. If designer brand shopping is more your thing, fear not, they have you covered as well - the six hour shopping spree bonanza should satisfy all your consumer needs :)
You may be interested to know that the company is also affiliated with other services that offer chartered transport services and airport transfers.

Free with every ticket, you will also receive a guide book listing the best other sights you can visit in New York, New York - so good they named it twice!

World Series Explained

A friend recently explained to me why the world series was called that, when there is rarely any other nationality of team, other than American. I had previously been under the misconception that the name was chosen because it was a series of games played between teams from all over the world. However, the actual history behind the name is that the ‘New York World‘ newspaper originally sponsored the name!
