My thanks to a channels.nl forum member for pointing out these…
Whether any of these were truly double-barrelled surnames, or simply presented in the newspaper in the Person A Surname – Person B Surname, I don’t know, but they’re funny enough.
Quite a lot of pictures here, so click the link below to see them.

Wang-Holder… That was a bit too queer for me… Reminded of an old Russian anecdote about Capt. Rantsev and his fiancee, daughter of Colonel Sass. The resulting surname — Sass-Rantsev — was somewhat striking, to a Russian speaker at least. Ask Irina about the meaning, I won’t dare to explain it here.

Well, I suppose it will be easier to ask forgiveness than to get permission.
Most of Russian last names are technically genitives deriving from the name or a nickname of the father (or an ancestor), so Ivanov means “[son] of Ivan”, Melnikov — “[son] of a miller”, etc. So far, it’s basically the same as in languages like English, Swedish or Irish. Then the model becomes a bit more distant from the actual “son-of” meaning. I doubt Rantsev was a “[son] of a backpack”, what his last name literally translates to.
And now to the point. When you combine the proud German last name of Sass with the equally good Russian last name of Rantsev, you get something which sounds exactly like Zasrantsev, which, while not being an actual last name, strongly implies that the person in question is a “[son] of a man who shits in his pants” (literal translation, or “[son] of a scumbag” is you take in figuratively).
Now even though Colonel Sass was far more noble than Captain Rantsev, the problem was reportedly solved by making the double-barrelled name sound Rantsev-Sass. Less proper, but at least not shocking.
