KZBlog is going down (2)
After some thought, I have decided not to renew KZBLog’s lease. As you may have noticed, I don’t do a lot of posting here anymore. I don’t have time to blog regularly. Thus I am taking the site down–it does generate some ad revenue but not as much as it costs to keep it up. […]

Does everyone get a “press tab to search this site” message in Google Chrome now? Just started today. Looks pretty cool
Google Transparency (2)
Probably to avoid bad press, Google has launched a new domain, Google Transparency Report, which shows how much traffic goes to different Google sites by country in order to see where services are blocked. The government request feature lets you see by country how many requests Google got to remove or censor content. Interestingly, Kazakhstan’s government has made fewer than 10 requests from July 2009 to June 2010, all in the calendar year of 2010 and none were complied with:
Looking at Blogger traffic, it has clearly been declining. Whether that is due mainly to government blockages or the perception of government blockages is unclear of course. There’s quite the little drop in January of 2010.
Any theories on what that spike is on June 6, 2010?

ITP Considers Renaming it the Andre Cup (Comments Off on ITP Considers Renaming it the Andre Cup)
Kazakhstan beat Switzerland 5-0 in the Davis Cup World Group playoffs this weekend, dropping only 2 sets in 5 matches. Andre Golubev was the star of the playoff, beating Marco Chiudinelli in 3 straight sets on Friday. Then he lead the doubles team with Yuri Schukin on Saturday to another straight sets victory over Yves Allegro and Stanislas Wawrinka, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. Then today he slaughtered Michael Lammer 6-3, 6-2.
Mikhail Kukushkin also put in a world class performance, first against Wawrinka (#20 in the world), which took him 5 sets to win, including losing the fourth set 1-6. Today Kukushkin made short work of Chiudinelli 6-2, 6-4 dominating the entire match, except for a brief period in the second set when it looked like the Swiss player might stage a comeback. But it was a short-lived recovery and Kukushkin shut him down quickly.
Pictures to come later as well as anecdotal stories about the exuberant and amiable Swiss fans.

Kazakhstan 2017 (1)
It appears that Nazarbayev is planning to run again in 2012 and possibly in 2020, according to adviser and apparently defacto spokesperson Yermukhamet Yertysbayev. If he runs and wins, he will rule until 2017, and be 77 years old.
According to Yertysbayev, the President would like to see out the industrial-innovation strategy.
