KZBlog is going down (2)
After some thought, I have decided not to renew KZBLog’s lease. As you may have noticed, I don’t do a lot of posting here anymore. I don’t have time to blog regularly. Thus I am taking the site down–it does generate some ad revenue but not as much as it costs to keep it up. […]
New Team (2)
News is coming out in trickles. Masimov’s blog only announces that he has proposed a new Cabinet and it has been approved by the President: “The new ministers will be presented soon.”
But Reuters reports that Kairat Kelimbetov has been named Minister of the Economy, leaving his position as head of Samruk-Kazyna Holding wide open.
And the Minister of Foreign Affairs is now Yerzhan Kazykhanov, who was deputy minister. Former Foreign Minister, Kanat Saudabayev, will probably stay on in his other role as Government Secretary.
Asylzhan Mamytbekov, who had been head of the holding company KazAgro, will be Minister of Agriculture.
So three ministerial announcements and two big holding companies with top jobs open…

20-Year Old Sex Slave Freed (Comments Off on 20-Year Old Sex Slave Freed)
an awful story [RU] of a student studying to be a teacher being kidnapped and forced into prostitution. I’m a bit unclear as they say in the first paragraph that the girl was kidnapped at home and shoved into a car, but then describe a girl kidnapped in the basement of a hotel. In any case, it’s nice to know the police are at least trying to stop sexual slavery.
And if you follow the link at the bottom about a couple who held a girl for 6 years and then follow the next link to the next related story, you’ll see that there are some horrible people out there.

A Transparent PM (2)
Prime Minister Karim Masimov announced the other day that he is setting up a new section on his blog to rate the effectiveness of government workers. It isn’t clear exactly what role the blog will play in this or what he will put up, but as of yet the transparency section, as Masimov is calling it is only hosting the usual direct transcripts of government policies like Kazakhstan 2030 and news articles about programs initiated by the Prime Minister.
I’m hoping this might a sort of public forum where civil servants and government agencies that don’t perform well will be outed publicly and information about what is being done to make the government more open and transparent will be posted.
Protein Kills the Colon (Comments Off on Protein Kills the Colon)
Bad news for meat lovers, which is to say the entire population of Kazakhstan. According to British researchers, protein-heavy diets cause colon cancer. and damage substances in the body that protect against tumors.
Of course, scientists always go back and forth about what makes a good or bad diet, but it might not be a bad idea to look into colonix reviews and other colon cleansers, just in case.
