Genghis Khan as a brand–have Mongols been too enthusiastic is using their great ancestor as a marketing tool?
According to The Times of India, Mongolia is working on regulating the name of Genghis Khan:
“We are not showing enough respect to Genghis Khan,” [a lawmaker] said. “If today somebody produces toilet paper with Genghis Khan’s name, we do not know what to do about it as currently there is no law to regulate this issue.”
I do wish that someone would determine the official Latin alphabet spelling of the name, since Chingis is probably closer to how his name was pronounced, but most people in the West know it as Genghis, and then there’s Ghenighis to indicate a soft G….
