Silk Road Intelligencer
One resource I often consult is the Silk Road Intelligencer, a site that just reprints news from other sources. I don’t usually like sites that have no original content, and that reprint articles in whole from other sources. However SRI does give credit and usually includes a link to the original source. However, SRI does do a good job of picking through all the news on Kazakhstan in English (I suspect they use a Google News Search for Kazakhstan, like I do) and picking out only the relevant or interesting articles. So it does save time and there’s a lot of good information there.
However, if you subscribe to their feed, you get all their stories plus category round-ups, which repeat the same stories by category, and then the daily round-up which reprints all the stories for that day in every category. This feed was quickly flooding my feed reader and leading to a lot of repetition. However, I discovered a neat trick which is that most site feeds can be filtered by category automatically. So here is the Daily News Round Up Feed which only updates once a day and links to all the stories that day. By substituting something else for news-roundup, you can get a feed for any one category you want. And this same trick should work with any WordPress blog or any RSS 2.0 feed, I believe. Perhaps someone smarter than me can correct me if I’m wrong about that in the comments.
