Kazakh Garage Rock
Stumbled on a couple of videos on Youtube by a Kazakh garage band in Karaganda called Highway. The Youtube page hasn’t seen much activity in the past 6 months, nor has their Facebook page or blog but hopefully, they are still active and making music.
To be honest, DIY and garage rock doesn’t get a lot of attention here in Kazakhstan. So it’s always exciting to hear about less mainstream projects. And this band is pretty good. If anyone has any info on them, or they want to do an interview, I’d be happy to put up more here. Or more about other small projects going on that most of Kazakhstan doesn’t know about yet.

kazakh garage rock you say? well then you might be interested in my music within Friends of Design project.

to listen to the whole album you could download spotify and search for friends of design, it’s a free streaming thingy, I wonder if it is available in Kazakhstan. We are also available on Napster. email me if you can’t get any and I will send you mp3s if you are interested.
Our album is rather eclectic from rock to doo wop of 50s to house of 90-s for any taste, but if you are particularly interested in rock – our tracks Simply Semantic, Glue and Blue sky are pretty rocky.

Would love to check out your site and band, but the website fernmind.com seems to be down. I try it from time to time and it never loads.
Just to let you know the site is currently loading fine for me. Might be worth either trying Opera’s turbo mode or using different DNS or checking on a friend’s PC that uses a different ISP?

Fernmind is based on wordpress.com, I think it is quite usual that wordpress doesn’t open in Kazakhstan for some reason:O.
