Guess Who’s Back? Back Again?

Believe it or not, there’s going to be another film about Borat. Without the participation of Sascha Baron Cohen however. Kazakh director, Erkin Rakishev is planning a movie called My Brother, Borat which is apparently about what happens when an American fan of Borat’s comes to Kazakhstan and finds out that it is a developed and modern country.
All in all, it sounds suspiciously like Borat’s Repentance, a film made by some Americans in 2008 about the president of Borat’s fan club also making a journey to Almaty to discover the modern marvel of Kazakhstan. One hopes that My Brother, Borat will also have a sense of humor about itself and come off as either straight propaganda for Kazakhstan (Everything here is perfect, all the children are smiling and even pensioners are eating filet mignon while surfing high speed wireless Internet on their iPhone 4.0s) or too mean-spirited against Sascha Baron Cohen or Western culture.
Some have wondered why the film will apparently be about an American tourist when Sascha Baron Cohen is British. Other’s have wondered if when the film comes out next year, people in Kazakhstan will still care about Borat.
Does anyone know what else Erkin Rakishev has done? I can’t seem to find any projects he has worked on thanks to the popularity of the news on Borat film.

Can I be in it?! Where do I sign up? (jk)
I hope it’s more comedy and less artsy drama than Schiza and Tulpan.
rakishev is not listed in IMDB (neither is “my brother, borat”). which means it is quite likely that he has never made a film that was released commercially.
There is a story about Rakishev at Kazakhstan Pravda. It’s in Russian.

The thing I find interesting is that he is getting a couple of Russian actors to play a couple of Americans. It’s funny to be on the other side of that – where we usually watch Americans play Russians in Hollywood movies.
But yeah, 2011, Borat is not high on the charts of cultural relevance anywhere in the western world. Not sure who the investors are on this one.
Thanks for the link, will check out the article.
The film will definitely be interesting. There are definitely a lot of Russian jokes about Americans. One comedian, Durnin (I believe), bases almost his own act on mocking the US and Americans. Some of it is funny and relevant, and some of it is really satire of Russia or human nature in general. But some of it is just based on the idea Americans are stupid and ugly, like, “Today the government said they will simplify their forms. Even Americans will be able to understand them”. c.f Polish jokes when I was young. So it will be fun to see how they go with it.
