Kazakhstan Hosting Alien Embassy! Not!
I am getting sick and tired of hearing about Kazakhstan and UFOs. I don’t mean stories that have some basis in fact which claim that something fell from the sky or something weird was seen (Like this one). Nor do I mean human interest stories about people who do believe in aliens and UFOs. I mean the stories that claim that Kazakhstan is a UFO center and in league with the Anti-Christ. These stories ultimately fall apart because they are based on misinformation, lies and jokes.
For example, the story that Kazakhstan is building the first alien embassy in the world, a story that appeared almost one year ago today. It is a lie. First of all, as we should have learned from snopes.com, be suspicious of stories that have only one source. All stories about the Alien Embassy ultimately link back to this story: Kazakhstan is hosting first Alien Embassy from Express-K. Surely if this story was true, at least one other newspaper would be talking about it. But they aren’t. Nor does the Kazakhstan government, which brags left and right about every new building and public institution it opens, mention this embassy anywhere.
That this article is a joke ala The Onion should be apparent to anyone who reads the newspaper regularly or reads Russian and Kazakh. Note the headline: “Это хабар, что:” (It’s news that in mixed Russian and Kazakh) and the subtitle “Хабар за чистую монету выдавал ПаМир” (PaMir takes the news takes at face value). Now I have no idea what PaMir means, but the reference to taking something at face value should be an indication that this is satire. Furthermore, if you search for those phrases on the Express-K.kz website, you’ll find that all the articles using these two phrases are satirical. Exhibit A: Manchester United recieved a copy of the Champion League Cup in 2008, because the real one was stolen when it was kept in the Red Square in Moscow! Note that no one besides those journalists at Express-K.kz have ever broken this extraordinary story.
Also note that the alien embassy story quotes no one and cites no sources. That alone should be suspicious. Since when does any government announce something as substantial as an alien embassy without a press-release, a press spokesperson, a news conference? Since when do newspapers present facts without giving sources?
Finally, a lot of articles and comments on this supposed “story” reference the well-known fact that there is already a UFO base in the Caspian Sea. Why would Kazakhstan build an embassy if it already has a Caspian Sea base for alien visitors? Wouldn’t it make sense to just expand on the existing structure?
So No, Virginia, Kazakhstan will not build a UFO base or an alien embassy.
