A New Home

Thanks to a dear friend, KZBlog now has its own home, KZBlog.net.
Blogsome is a solid blogging site that works fine. I have had no real complaints with it. But having my own domain makes me look cooler, lets me upload stuff to my own site, and also gives me access to the full version of Word Press, which has a lot more features and toys to play with. I think I’ve got things more or less where I want them, but if you have any suggestions, I’m open to them and I would greatly appreciate any feedback on problems you have with the site. It looks good in the latest versions of Chrome and Firefox but I don’t have IE on here or older browsers, so I’d love to know if the layout looks as good for everyone.
Please remember to update your feeds and blogrolls and boomarks. The archiving system for both sites is the same, so if you had a link or bookmark to a specific post you wanted to keep, just replace “kazakhstan.blogsome.com” with “kzblog.net”. I flatter myself to think people find my posts useful enough to bookmark them!
I also have to apologize for the fact that the posts and comments didn’t migrate smoothly, so I’ve spent the past 4 days basically copying and pasting every post from the old site. But I don’t have the energy to copy all your lovely comments. So sorry loyal readers. You’re not being censored, I’m just lazy!
Doing all that work made me aware of a few fun facts about KZBlog. The first post, Send in the Clowns”, was in November of 2005 making this blog 4 years old (yesterday in fact was its birthday!) That post is still in the top 10 most popular of all time, probably because it was about Borat and had the word “slut” in it!.
There have been a total of 370 posts on blogsome and 468 comments. That’s 1 post every 3.94 days and 1.26 comments per post. There was also approximately one typo per post on average! Not too bad for a blog on an obscure country and one with huge silent gaps and then 3 posts in a row!
EDIT: If someone with a paid account at Live Journal wanted to create a syndicated feed for the new site, I would be eternally grateful.

Hi kzblog, congratulations on your own blog on your own domain name. With regards to how it looks in IE, it looks fine in all version you’ll be glad to hear. On a laptop running a resolution of 1024 pixels a little bit of scrolling needed to see the extreme right hand side of the page but no biggie (this would affect all browsers). Also, if you ever want to see how a site looks in the various versions of IE check out http://my-debugbar.com/wiki/IETester/HomePage. it’s a handy lightweight test browser where you can open tabs specific to the version of IE you want to test. (from version 5.5 upwards). Just ensure you’ve downloaded and installed at least IE version 7 for the IE8 test to be available. I used it recently to (try and) solve some fiddly IE issues with a web site I was working on.

I have a widescreen 1280 screen on my laptop, so I always forget to make it a bit smaller for normal people. I’ll check out that program, but glad to hear it looks ok in IE.
Looks fine in Opera, Firefox and Chrome as well. Congrats on the new site my friend and looking foward to future posts !
Thanks dude. Heard you’re coming up to Astana soon. Hope to meet up.
