She Did It!
Update on my last post on Olympic results. Irina Nekrassova is the first Kazakhstan athelete to win a medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games! Losing to North Korean Pak Hyon-suk by only one kilogram total!
She set the bar high in the snatch, lifting 110kg, 4 kg more than Pak. Nekrassova then went on lifting 110kg with her rest attempts, establishing a four kilogram lead. However, in the clean and jerk, she was unable to surpass 130kg. Pak failed twice to lift 135kg, but managed to do it on her third and final attempt.
Nekrassova most recently came in 9th in the 2007 World Championships and was named one of the Seven Scariest Women at the 2008 Olympics.
It is Pak’s first Olympics and I believe Nekrassova’s as well though I can’t confirm that. She is 20 years old, and was born in Stepnogorsk in North Kazakhstan.
Now Kazakhstan, you’ve won one. Tolko Pereod!
