BBC podcast “From Our Own Correspondent”
BBC launched a new podcast of From Our Own Correspondent. Look it up and download the one from 15 July 2006 (the first one) ,which covers Kazakhstan.
The bit about Kazakhstan and Astana is located about 17 minutes in, although I intend to listen to the other reports as they sound interesting (and obviously listening to too much BBC is affecting my writing style).
Transcript of the bit on Kazakhstan. It’s a bit blistering. I thought it particularly interesting that a school teacher knew nothing of the trial of the century; I can’t help but wonder if she knew about it but didn’t want to say anything to a foreign correspondent about such a touchy and shameful topic?
