Earlier in the week (Monday?), the weather went above 0C all day, and most of the snow and ice in areas not hidden from the sun was melting or melted. I was most impressed to see a JCB like vehicle, several workmen and a couple of Kamaz trucks (to take away the ice and snow) taking the opportunity to remove what had been two or three inches of solid ice from both the pavements and road around our flat during that day. However, DanInKaz had to go and tempt fate by tweeting about the lovely weather. Tuesday onwards saw temperatures, whilst not plummet, certainly dip into the minus numbers again. Fresh snowfall, any slush not cleared turning into smooth ice sheets again and occasional biting winds have returned and made walking and driving in the city require more attention again. OK, so Spring is hopefully only a matter of weeks away now, and we’ll not need to scour the local shops for heated mattress pads, however, the next time the weather takes a turn for the better, I’ll be driving to Dan’s flat, snipping his phone line and stealing his SIM card to ensure he stays incommunicado until the seasons settle down. You’ve been warned 😉

Dombra Hero
Although I’ve mentioned it a few times, and linked to the old design once, I never managed to get around to writing a post dedicated to a great T-Shirt from a superb collection that a friend sells via redbubble. You can see how the new design looks on a hoodie in the image below, but don’t forget that they also sell various styles of t-shirts, children’s clothing and also stickers and different formats of prints. The company has managed to deliver to Kazakhstan and even Afghanistan in the past, so I’d not worry about items arriving.
For those that missed out on the whole playing a pretend instrument on a console in time (occasionally 🙂 ) with a song, Guitar Hero was part of the inspiration for this design, with a Kazakh theme heavily applied, as the Dombra is a local two stringed instrument. Check through previous posts to see friends playing familiar songs on an instrument that PotUSA band members would be eager to try, I’m sure.

Dubstep Snowman
HUGE thanks to Marcus Brigstocke for tweeting a link to this video. Once Anna is up in the morning, I’ll be able to crank up the volume to appreciate some of the bass, but for now, I’m thinking this will feature heavily in the coming days as we prepare to relocate to Britain for a couple of weeks.
The general plan is to be based in Clydach (the one near Swansea) with Mum, John and little Gwen, and pop over to Evesham and Gloucestershire (staying with Dad and seeing Cheltenham area based friends) just after New Year. Sadly we’ll be leaving again around the 8th of January so I’m hoping that…
a) We’ll somehow manage to see most people during the two or three days we’ll be around Gloucestershire (though obviously most of the time we’ll be in Evesham with Dad)
or…
b) A few people will manage to stay sober for long enough to drive over to Clydach and visit us all there. Those willing to make the short trip will be welcomed with open arms/full pint and/or shot glasses/cheery smiles (delete as appropriate).
I’ll be tagging people in Facebook (in the hope that this will catch their attention more than if they find their facebook homepage is flooded with Xmas-related messages from their friends) once it is imported over there, so if you want to respond with a “yes, it has been months/years since we caught up, we’ll make the effort to travel into Cheltenham town centre/Evesham/South Wales as you’ve all again travelled over 3000 miles to try and meet friends as well as family” can do so via facebook/blog comments/e-mail/IM/phone.
Oh, and before I forget, head over to Linton Brown’s facebook page for more tracks from the genius who created Dubstep Snowman. If you want an MP3 of DS, head here.
Finally, if you can’t see the video due to seeing this post in facebook, check out http://ChrisMerriman.com and this post will most likely still be on the front page for a week or so.

Journey to the Weekend
Today is Con’s birthday, so from everyone here, and back in Clydach I’m sure, a huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you dude. I thought I’d published the rest of this post already, but it was just sat there in my draft folder, waiting to go live. Sorry for the delay…
DJ Hydrophonics (our friend Con of Rescued Entertainment in Australia) has released a new mix, his first non-Drum n’ Bass one apparently. Click the big play button below to listen to it.

Seb’s Trance Playlist
Just a very short post, passing on our friend Seb’s great YouTube Trance video playlist. Quite a few of the tracks don’t have real music videos, but I still think it is worth just letting it play in the background on another tab, as I’ve done whilst writing tonight’s posts. Thanks Seb, some of these tunes bought back great memories, and it was good to know what a few of them were actually called. We all look forward to seeing you again around Christmas time, when we will be back in the UK. Which reminds me, I need to think about updating the MP3s on my phone and thumb drives, I’m getting bored of listening to the same tracks over and over whilst walking to work…
This is the first time I’ve tried embedding a playlist from YouTube, please do leave a comment if it behaves strangely.
