This Part Is Damaged

That post title is a lot easier to understand, for the majority of people, than stating ‘this looks like an advanced case of angiomatosis retinae’…
Although modern medicine has been improved no end in recent decades by huge advances in medical technology, this only really considers the medical staff’s side of the equation. A BBC article details how 3D artists have teamed up with doctors to simplify and enhance the images produced by traditional medical scans into a form more easily understandable by a layman - in this case the patient who was scanned.
Although this obviously can help the patient to visualise the changes his or her body are undergoing, it can also sow the seeds for a a real two way conversation between patient and healer, rather than a monologue by the professional. I know myself that people from the older generations hold doctors in great respect, and will often not want to ‘bother’ a doctor if the level of technical detail in a diagnosis is well over their head. Hopefully the use of technology in this sort of way will enable people to actually comprehend what is going on within their own body.
