That Hub Looks A Bit Cleaner Than Yesterday?

Category: Aware Or Conspiracy Nut...,In The MediaChrisM @ 6:33 pm

Whether it is a TV, desk fan or wall clock, the gadgets you could buy from catalogues in the previous decades to spy on people were all pretty big. New Scientist has an article informing us that not only have the devices got smaller, but also that they are more high tech now. One similarity is that the objects used to hide the circuitry are still items that can easily be swapped in a home or office without people normally noticing. Fans, wall clocks and TVs are normally quite easy to swap, as there aren’t that many popular models that will be found in most homes/offices. The same applies really for USB coffee cup warmers, USB hubs or even keyboards. I’m currently trying to resist the urge to see if my combined hub and cup warmer is sealed or screwed shut 🙂

Got To Love That HDMI Quality

Category: Friends,Kazakhstan,PersonalChrisM @ 2:02 am

From the income generated from this blog and my other sites, I spent a little money on items from e-bay, e-buyer and a few other online stores. As most of them to not deliver to Kazakhstan (and as our postal service out here is still a little hit and miss), I had them delivered to AlexC’s house. One of the most eagerly awaited goodies was a 10 metre DVI>HDMI lead. We can now watch videos from the PC, on the TV, at the full 1920×1080 resolution, without any of the interference that using component caused.
Although the vast majority of my files are at much lower resolutions, viewing digital photos (I’ll hopefully be posting some of Alex’s a little later) is a lot better now, as we can really see the fine detail without having to zoom in.
Anyway, with that lead, and a proper null modem cable to connect to the satellite receiver (I had to bodge one together previously, which looked a little ugly, and was about 10cm to short to use since we bought the TV stand), the room is starting to look a little tidier 🙂 I can now also upload new firmwares to the satellite box when ever needed, so more channels are available day to day 🙂

A Couple Of Video Clips

Category: Personal,VideosChrisM @ 11:54 pm

I was catching up with some of the last 6 months of UK TV today, and came across these gems…

OK first one is Billie Piper, in Dr Who, with a moment of pure honesty :> …

Secondly we have James May, from Top Gear, proving his posh, slightly boring guy appearance is mis-leading …

This was just after Jeremy had read out a letter complaining about his comments regarding bus drivers, and James mentioned it was a lot easier, in his experience, to drive a bus than work on Top Gear.

Finally, we have a shot of James in his new series on Sky – Shark Attack, not exactly his normal brogues and sensible shirt…
