Quick Question

I have been listening to a little music today, and I was hoping a reader of this blog has Eels – Novocaine For The Soul.
Why? Because I originally owned this on vinyl. Listening to the MP3, I can’t figure out if the hiss and crackle I hear at the beginning of the track was recorded like that in the studio, of if my MP3 was just ripped from the vinyl, and so the hiss and crackle were just from the record player?
Any clues anyone?
