The Greenery In Holland

arrrrrrrrrrrrgh, lost all the text I originally entered for this post during the downtime my sites had. Will try and remember what I was thinking about roughly…

Two types of Greenery, the first are coming, the second are at the end of the post, click the Continue Reading or similar link…

1) Shot out the window of the bus to Keukenhof (having changed forms of transport at Leiden, with a stop off to Double A, a coffeeshop a little off the beaten track. Tulip fields abound in this area. May well do a separate post for Keukenhof itself, these photos are all from a collection I posted at a couple of Amsterdam Coffeeshop forums a while back.

Here we have a pretty water fountain/sculpture at the entrance to the gardens.

A shot of a man playing with his organ in Holland. Wonder if that will get me any search engine based traffic 😉

Books Than Will Kill Your Brain

Category: Books,In The MediaChrisM @ 1:03 pm

Reading does, in general, expand your mind, help you to think in new directions, and even relax you after a stressful day.
Cracked has listed five books that maybe should not have ever made it past their draft version, and will most probably not push your brain to a higher plane of consciousness…
In case you need tempting to click on over to the article, here is the list of titles described…

Much Ado About Nothing: The Restored Klingon Text
Winning Lotto/Lottery for Everyday Players, 3rd edition(!)
How to Solve Sudoku: A Step-by-Step Guide (52 Brilliant Ideas)
    Supercharging Quantum-Touch
More Joy … : An Advanced Guide to Solo Sex

With such quality titles, how can you not go and read more about them?

Beijing Promises To Crack Down On Hackers

Category: Aware Or Conspiracy Nut...,In The MediaChrisM @ 1:14 am

Reading between the lines of an article, it would appear that there have been rumours of government involvement in China, with hackers’ attempts to infiltrate German Government computer networks, in a similar way to how Russia was accused over Estonian security breaches (see my post from a while back – Moscow Get Techy). Given that the article is on a Chinese web site, it would be very unlikely that any such accusation would be repeated, though I’d be interested to hear from anyone who knows a little more about the background to this story.
I can’t help feeling that this public display of reassurance may be used as a cover to further restrict the abilities of normal Chinese citizens to both obtain, and further disseminate information that is not in the “country’s interests”.

Possible Solution To Technorati Issues

Category: Personal,WordPressChrisM @ 2:06 am

If your blog has stopped appearing in Technorati’s directory, so you get

Sorry :~(

We’re sorry…we don’t have a blog by that name. If this is your blog, ping us so we can put it in our index!

when you search on a link like this – , as opposed to just searching via their search box, there may be light at the end of the tunnel.

If your blog hasn’t been flagged and deliberately removed from their directory, you can try turning off GZip compression.
The procedure for this depends on your blogging system, but for fellow WordPress users, all you need to is goto your dashboard, click on the Options link, click onto Reading, and untick the Use GZip box. Save, write a post as normal (assuming you do already have Technorati’s ping address in your list). You can also try a manual ping, by logging into Technorati and going to the My Account section.

If you use something other than WordPress, have a nose around your options, or failing that, there is a server-level mod you can make – see

If it doesn’t work, my apologies for raising your hopes, but it has helped some people. I’m still waiting to see if it will sort this blog out or not…
