I have a LOT of bookmarked pages to clear down (mainly links or images to embed on this site) at some point, and some posts are already drafted. I only came across 9gag.com in the last month, but for now here is an image for wrinkle cream around your eyes. The site seems to mainly be a collection of pictures from other places, with occasional original work submitted by fans. Anyway, later on tonight I’m going to try and post up a little more information on the eventful journey on the way home from the QBP last week, as well as the reason why we missed the American goal on Saturday night. Unless the heat drives me totally crazy. It is almost midnight and it is still 26 degrees outside. I’ve given up on the fresh air/open window approach, back to the trusty AC.
After repairing all my other websites (following the hacking of my server and insertion of malware links), I decided to standardize all the plugins across the sites, and only install themes and plugins that were available from the official WordPress repository. This makes keeping them up to date a lot easier (and semi-automatic) and should any new hacks take place, the clean up job will be quicker. In the last few days, I also re-jigged the adverts in use, as I sometimes had acne treatment cream ads appearing on totally unrelated web sites. I also finally re-instated the Amazon links; when these sites were not built around WordPress, I’d had Amazon.co.uk books related to each topic displayed, but didn’t see a single sale. I went through my AWStats information, and nineteen out of twenty sites had the most traffic from America. (Actually Russia figured quite heavily as well, but a) Russian visitors aren’t famous for click on adverts and buying products and b) Amazon don’t have a .RU specific site, oh and c) A lot of the Russian visitors were actually spam bots, once again not known for earning web masters money ) So, discovering that I had already set up an affiliate account there, I went ahead and inserted Amazon.com adverts on each site. I’m hoping that the sites will start to earn a bit money than the last year’s income, though I know that with summer coming there will be the usual dip in visitor numbers and corresponding income. The grill (BBQ) tips site might just be the exception, I suppose
We have the honour of being order number 20 for a relatively new start up business over here in Astana, Kazakhstan. Although America and Britain (and by extension, I’d assume the mainland European Continent?) have had supermarket deliveries available for years, this company seems to be the first in this city at least. I’ll not provide a link until we’ve seen the goods arrive (sometime in the next 2 hours) in one piece, with the correct money being charged, but if all goes well, I’m happy to recommend them. I’ve already passed on their details to one friend over here, so I’ll compare experiences to make sure any good/bad points aren’t isolated.
With the recent scares in America concerning the amount of drugs and other chemicals in the nation’s water system, I can’t help wondering where things will lead…
If large amounts of hormone treatment chemicals are found (the body does not metabolise all drugs completely before they exit through the traditional toilet manner), could we one day end up with men looking at maternity clothes for themselves, rather than their partners? Perhaps we’ll see the rise of male pregnancy support groups?
… They scare me. They hurt people. They are also good fun. hmmm, spot the conflict here?
Check out this post from 2006 for a video of me not killing anyone with a shotgun. Then watch the following video… I remember from previous research that even semi-automatic shotguns are illegal in some states in America, so I imagine this one will have even more of a problem!
The lack of recoil was particularly impressive – the petite woman firing the gun does not seem to suffer at all; not sure if it would have been a good idea if we’d had such hardware to hand on our trip to the salt water lake in 2006…
If any of my American readers can be bothered, could you send me a message explaining why (apparently) platform beds are only just becoming popular in the USA? What sort of beds did you normally sleep on in the past? I’m genuinely intrigued by this one. I doubt you all have futons or bunk beds Seriously, I did a little googling, and a few sites claimed that whilst popular over here in Europe and Asia, they were only just hitting the big time in America recently?
Back in Britain, there are only a few well known manufacturers of power tools. However, if you start to search around on the internet for the most popular brands in America, Asia and Continental Europe, you come across makes like festool. I had not previously heard of them, but from the feedback satisfied users have left dotted around the internet, the next time I need to purchase a drill or multi purpose table, I’ll be checking out Festool as well.
As long term readers may recall, last year AlexC came over to Kazakhstan, and we tried to make sure she saw at least a few things that were interesting. One of the events was a kokpar match that the President attended, (a bit like polo, but played with a goat carcass, and wrestling!), they also had a display of horse-based acrobatics and some races. Being so far from America, I can’t see me receiving any Kentucky Derby party invitations anytime soon.
Check out this article for details on how two ties in the Democrat election process were resolved. Although the use of playing cards to sort an even split in votes is interesting, I’m not sure it really depicts the utmost of respect for a democratic process… What do you think? In the end, the loser in cards (Mrs Clinton) did not suffer from this particular game of luck, I’m sure there must be better, more intelligent ways to sort future ties.
Thanks to KZBlog for the heads up on this (check the post here) matter, as many will remember, Rakhat Aliyev fled to Austria to evade the Kazakh authorities, when he was finally accused of a range of crimes. See this search for previous posts that mention him, within this blog. The part about a separate military tribunal for the charges of planning a coup are new to me; though with America having previously proposed this sort of arrangement for terrorists, I suppose the Kazakh government judiciary has an answer ready for those that accuse it again of lack of transparency…
