    Is a Mexican wave different from what we Yanks call just “a wave”? Everyone stands up and sits down quickly in turn around the stadium?

    No, they are one and the same thing. According to Wikipedia, “mexican” wave is indeed a English (UK) term. I was impressed that the wave survived around the corners of the stadium, as it wasn’t exactly packed there.
