iPhone Source?

One of my friends is hoping to directbuy a hacked (as in firmware cracked, so 3rd party apps and other phone networks will work OK) iPhone; if Alex is reading this, do you know of any places in Australia? He will be heading over there soon, and needs to sort himself a new phone ASAP. Not to worry if you haven’t come across anywhere, just a shot in the dark really…

Do you mean do I know of any places that do hacked phones?

The answer is not sure. I know they do phones that are not locked to specific service providers. There may be such places but personally I had a drama and a half just getting my 2 phones unlocked from Orange. I ended up without a mobile for 3 months while I waited for useless Orange to finally do it for me. No one has heard of SPVs out here and consequently I can’t receive MMS or use email and internet on my main mobile because Optus (my Oz service provider) don’t recognise the model therefore tell me my phone is incompatible.

Sorry, straying from the point a bit but basically anything half techie seems to require substantial effort out here.

Sadly the iPhone is a little different, in most countries only one cellular network provider has a contract to sell them, so buying a sim-free one isn’t so straightforward.

Why didn’t you mention about your SPV C600? I could have sent you the url to do it yourself! Re. MMS, GPRS and WAP settings, it doesn’t matter what the make and model of your phone is, the core settings are always the same info for each phone. Find someone on the same network as you, and just copy their settings on to yours.

On a separate note, when in Oz, if asked what phone you have, giving them the name that Orange gave it probably won’t help; next time, tell them its a HTC Tornado, or if they have details of US branded phones, a Cingular 2125/2100 I think. They might still not know, but its a start…
