I need to try and widen the scope of my networking hardware experience. Although I’ve obviously come across the standard consumer kit made by D-Link, Netgear and the like, the semi-professional and above ranges are still pretty much unknown to me. Having not used cisco routers, I do sometimes wonder what the differences would be in comparison to those bits of hardware I’ve actually laid my hands on and tweaked before. The idea of writing a script to control my router via telnet doesn’t bother me at all, it is just the concept of coming across serious networking equipment in a job, and having to pretty much wing it until I’m on my feet.
