Driftwood, Seb And Anna

Category: Anna's Photos,Friends,PersonalChrisM @ 8:23 pm

The day (22nd March ยง) after Marilyn arrived, Seb came over to say hi to all of us, and so we decided to take a walk on the beach. As there are three main beaches within easy reach of Clydach, we had to decide where to take him. The Mumbles is possibly the most famous beach near us, but unless you time your visits with the tides correctly, there can be no sand left at all – just the wall and then the sea itself! This left us a choice between one of Swansea’s beaches and Port Talbot’s. Although Swansea itself is a little prettier and seen as more up market (relatively speaking) compared to Port Talbot, Irina and I had been down there quite a few times recently with Anna (and sometimes Gwen), so we hopped onto the motorway for a few junctions, and parked up along the sea front in Port Talbot.
As ever, hover your cursor over the image’s to see their title/description… You could do that, or I could just remember that I only need to leave the caption field blank on tweet posts that are displayed as asides. (Runs off to edit a few earlier posts)

ยง – Why this constant fascination with the dates photos were taken? In case the EXIF data is some how not retained with these JPGs, I wanted to ensure that in years to come, I could easily tell when the pictures were actually taken, rather than when the posts containing them were published. You’ll just have to put up with it for now, sorry…

Hello and welcome home Chris & Irina ๐Ÿ™‚

Fiddlesticks! This keyboard does not behave itself and randomly posted my barely started comment.
    I will start again…

So tell me, did the kittens sulk when you got back or did they let you know how pleased they were to see you?

I’m wondering waht is different between this post and the one with the Marilyn pics. When you click on these photos they don’t go straight into the nice picture viewing widget that then lets you click through all the pics on that post.

Incidentally I think I could do with some sort of picture viewer on my blog as since the last upgrade my pictures are not working as they did either. You used to be able to upload a large picture and post it on the front page so it fitted the space but then you could just click on it to see it full size. It doesn’t have the option of clicking on the photo anymore, there is no link when you hover the mouse over it.

So how does it feel to be back (or should I say away again)? I know myself, after having spent only three weeks in the old dart (Aussie term for the motherland) I not so much miss my friends more (as I missed them desarately before I went back) but it’s like their absence has made a fresh wound.

They haven’t really had the opportunity to sulk yet – we’ve only seen them very briefly, to change their litter, replenish food and water, and make sure they’re OK each day. The flat is being redecorated, and we’ll probably not be moving back in this week. When we first saw them, Kara had a sniff, and was happy to be stroked, Muska ran away. No different to six months ago then, really ๐Ÿ™‚
Thanks for noticing the difference with the pictures – I forgot to set the relevant image file vs. attachment page setting for this post. Hope I set the other posts (still to come, pre-written, post-dated) correctly. I’ll fix that now.
You need to get your hosting sorted. JohnK said he was happy to go halves with you, so it wouldn’t be much. You’d lost the naff adverts, have a lot more flexibility, your RSS feeds wouldn’t be broken, and I’d not dread dipping into your site to help out ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ll check the picture thing in a sec, I expect you’ve not selected the correct option when you uploaded the pictures, but I could just be making false assumptions.

Coming back this time has been a bit harder than I hoped it would… I guess because after six months in Britain, I’d really had an opportunity to get used to UK life again, and come to expect certain things to be automatic.

Ugggh, I can’t even login in to your site right now, it is just timing out, all other domains seem fine for me. I’ll try again in five, and if no joy will try to sort tomorrow – it is 3.40am here and I need to sleep so I can look after Anna in the morning.
Oh, and Auto Thickbox is the name of the plugin I use to create those pop up image boxes. Not perfect, but the best of the ones I’ve trialled so far. Thought I’d installed it for you already, but can’t check right now as still unable to login.

  5. ChrisM says:

OK, it eventually stopped timing out, so I’ve logged in, checked what the problem was with those pictures, installed Auto Thickbox (so your older posts with proper pictutes now have a pretty pop up with the image. If you don’t like it, easy to remove), and logged out again.

You’ll need to check how you’re uploading photos – I checked the HTML, and WordPress isn’t misbehaving, it is simply doing what you’ve asked it to. Compare them to the older posts on your front page in HTML mode, not the silly WYSIWYG mode, and you’ll hopefully see the difference. Really heading to bed now…

Aha, after just trying to finish my post on the Torchwood water tower and getting thoroughly pissed off with the picture format I went back to one of my old picture posts and discovered the Auto Thickbox thing. I was totally confused until I read this. Thank you for your time btw, please don’t tire yourself out though ๐Ÿ™‚ I still don’t understand why my pictures aren’t working but will go back and do what you suggest by comparing the coding of the old posts.
Though, I notice with the Auto Thickbox that all the pictures shrink to a standard size. It would still be nice to have option of using the old format where you could click on the picture to view full size if necessary. Anyway, will see what I can find out.

re. thickbox, goto the plugins page in your admin area. You should find a link there to the plugin’s authors site. You could either find if there is a way to over ride the function (you may be able to insert some code for pictures you want to have full size, without the pretty frame), or you could disable the plugin.
