Why? What did they screw up? And for future reference, which shop?

The White Wind shop not too far from Vaquero (Vanquero? It has been too long since we sampled their delights 🙂 ), and they didn’t do anything too specifically moronic. Its just the little things in this case. Slightly screwing up the original installation of XP on Ira’s Mum’s PC, choosing FAT32 instead of NTFS, not knowing the difference between old 15-pin VGA connections and DVI, a few other things at the time of installation. Not the end of the world, if it had been someone helping out for free, but a computer shop that charges for services should know a little… On the road to recovery now as far as this PC is concerned, and hopefully a more solid and reliable build this time, I’m hoping less/no (ha ha) BSoDs etc. Oh and forget Ucon for systems as well – they at least knew their stuff, but back in 2006 at least were forever being mucked around by their suppliers and took months to complete an order, despite always saying ‘by the end of the week’.
To anyone back in Britain wondering, I didn’t build my own, or the mother-in-laws due to worrying about things going wrong with hardware and Russian language installs. I stupidly thought that if the shops themselves built the rigs, we’d have more come back. Learned my lesson there, and will be self-building any future projects. Assuming the shops here ever get around to keeping an up to date and honest stock list 🙂
