Buddy Bears Brought Back!

It took a while (see here for previous mentions of them), but I can finally present a few photos taken of the Buddy Bear exhibition that was in Astana last year. DanC was back in town at the time, and so most of us managed to meet up near Baiterek and have a look around. It was a good afternoon out, though I wish Anna had already become used to her sunglasses, as she seems to hate bright sun in her eyes even more than me. This meant she probably wasn’t able to get a good look at some bears.

Beer, Brilliant Buddy Bears And Babies

DanC is back in town for a few days, so we are hoping to meet up on Saturday and see how his family is doing. The other Dan (DanD) will be joining us after his daughters finish their afternoon nap, by which time I hope to have had a few relaxing beers (one advantage of not driving over here), some barbecued beef, and then we’ll all move on to Bayterek to have a look at some brilliant buddy bears. Hopefully the walk will be healthy, as beer and shashlik aren’t known for their fat/calorie free content 🙂 Why all the letter B’s in this post? No idea TBH, but the buddy bears started this whole alliteration theme…

In case I forget to blog on them, or we end up not going there for some reason, here is a quick summary –

Buddy Bears Almost In Astana (Mock-Up)

The Buddy bears have arrived in Astana! There are 125 brightly painted bears standing in between Baiterek and Keyruen shopping centre. They stand at over 2 meters high painted by famous artists from all over the world, each one representing a country. They are an event of the ‘Germany in Kazakhstan’ programme and will be displayed until July.

Nerd Buddy Backpack

Thanks to Stargazer for bring this clip to my attention 🙂

I’m just glad none of my friends or relatives could cope my weight on their back – I’m not really up for 24/7 tech support duties – its nice to be able to occasionally close the PC down, and disconnect my PDA from all IM clients – even geeks need sleep occasionally 😉

Ali BaBa With Aidan And Anna

Still on the 15th of May 2010, we have a meeting between Aidan (DanC’s son) and Anna. Their date was at Ali BaBa (see 12 posts ago), which coincidentally meant their parents and Walton could grab a bite to eat and a drink or three. Actually, remembering back almost a year ago, I think Buddy Bears came after meeting up at Ali BaBa, but I can hope you can forgive me a few hours discrepancy with Anna’s pictures? Anyway, we grabbed on of the comfy side tables where you can sit on cushions and Anna and Aidan could lie down and nap if they wanted (ha ha ha, obviously didn’t happen, but it was good to have the option there 🙂 ).
