Astana / Kazakhstan Has Internet Access Once More

November 30th, 2006 at 4:35 am » Comments (4)

For the last couple of hours there was no http transfer, at first e-mail still worked, and Skype was working fine, but web sites and Messenger didn’t work.
Then e-mail dropped out.
It may have just been flaky DNS servers, as nothing was resolving, but I’m thinking it was a little closer to the back bone servers [...]

200th Post

November 30th, 2006 at 12:59 am » Comments (0)

OK, so I was too impatient to wait for the 200 post mark to pass naturally…
In case anyone is in any need of further proof that I didn’t just insult Mr Arafat’s widow in the e-mail below, check out THIS google search and spot the amazing similarity to other documented 419 scam letters, albeit with [...]

419 Scams

November 30th, 2006 at 12:31 am » Comments (2)

I received a delightful e-mail, explaining how I could not only ‘earn’ a large amount of money, but also flick a ‘v’ at those nasty women-hating muslims (paraphrasing of their words, N_O_T mine…)
This is the e-mail
Dear Friend,
I am MRS. SUHA ARAFAT, the wife of late YASSER ARAFAT,the Palestinian
leader who died in Paris. Since his death [...]

Tom #2 (the pilot) didn’t turn up, hope his flight to Astana was ok…
Anyway we (Myself, Tom & Walton (and Ira when she had finished at Work)) went to Cafe Shymkent, and had a nice meal and a couple of drinks. Talked about all sorts, and I managed to stay sober enough to remember everything [...]

Faces Over A Dozen Years

November 28th, 2006 at 2:33 am » Comments (0)

This might be veering towards narcissistic, but as I had downloaded an animated GIF creation package the other day, I decided to try it out.
The picture below is the first result of my learning the basics.
The filename tells you all you need to know - ChrisOver12YearsResized.gif
OK, the resized bit is irrelevant (I was working at [...]

Message For Tom, Message For Other Tom And Another Thing

November 28th, 2006 at 2:19 am » Comments (2)

OK, first for Tom from LifeOf2Me, I keep forgetting to mention THIS link to you when we meet in the real world… Not sure if it will be of any use to you with your work (if/when the school gets closer to actually needing syllabuses/lesson plans etc.), but I thought it might be of interest [...]

Ira has a New Winter Outfit

November 25th, 2006 at 5:22 pm » Comments (0)

I had a lie in this morning, as I was up quite late again working last night (well this morning)
Irina took the opportunity to blitz the clothes shops with her mum.
Anyway, here are a couple of snapshots…

And Another Find

November 25th, 2006 at 5:41 am » Comments (0)

This one is based on a mail shot by a Republican earlier this year
The picture below is what the blog entry is based upon, and some of the comments make interesting reading. Click the picture to be taken to the post itself.

In case it isn’t abundantly clear, I’m not supporting the fool who made the [...]

Good Summary of the Conspiracy Theories

November 25th, 2006 at 5:32 am » Comments (0)

I got a bit bored doing my work tonight, so I ended up randomly following links until I came upon…
http://icssa.org/9-11%20Questions.htm
Whilst most of the questions have been asked before, it was interesting to see them all in one place, without too much paranoid delusional stuff inserted.
I don’t happen to think all the questions are related as [...]

View from straight out the middle balcony’s windows and then further to the left…

Found Some Useful Camcorder/Webcam Software

November 22nd, 2006 at 2:37 am » Comments (0)

Bit of a niche product, but as I was transferring some video from my DV camcorder (a Panasonic NV-GS55 kindly given to us by in-laws), I found a program that can take any standard video input on your PC (webcam, DV cameras via firewire & TV cards etc.) and split it between different programs/instances of [...]

Caught The Tail-End Of An Ad On Al-Jazeera (Eng)

November 22nd, 2006 at 2:27 am » Comments (0)

On a program based on the link between sport and crime in Kazakhstan. Sadly, I didn’t catch when it will be on, else I’d setup the PC to record it. If anyone knows when it is, or finds a link referencing it, please do let me know.

Bored? Check Some Of These Then…

November 21st, 2006 at 2:37 am » Comments (0)

I found these whilst taking a break from doing work tonight…
In no particular order…
This made me think of my student digs when I was at Bournemouth.
Penultimately, we have a site to let you know just how much management speak, buzz word & general BS a site contains. Luckily, this site currently scores incredibly lowly.
Finaly, on [...]
