November Astana Weather Report

October 31st, 2006 at 3:53 pm » Comments (1)

This is completely unofficial, I must stress (my wife heard from a friend, who heard from a friend, who heard from a meteorologist that…), but rumour has it that due to an approaching low pressure anomaly in Astana, we might see temperatures dip to minus 30 Celsius this November. For American readers, I believe that [...]

Drive In Theatre Details Confirmed

October 30th, 2006 at 9:44 pm » Comments (2)

They have started showing films. Currently displaying Pirates of the Caribbean. Not sure if it is #1 or #2.
Also confirmed they are using 107.8MHz FM as the audio carrier for the film. Could be ± 0.2 MHz, the radio we tuned in on isn’t brilliant.
Photo itself isn’t brilliant, late at night, with no tripod

Below we [...]

Went Out Saturday Night

October 30th, 2006 at 11:53 am » Comments (4)

And met up with a couple of fellow bloggers. You can check their sites by clicking on the KZBlog and The Life of 2ME links on the right, under Kazakh blogs. Had a good time, and a little to eat. I appear to have drunk a bit too much, as the moment we stepped outside [...]

Irina is Home

October 30th, 2006 at 10:46 am » Comments (0)

She got back on Saturday. I started drafting a post that day, but seem to have lost it down the back of a cyber-sofa :>
I’ve got the 2nd monitor setup now, see below for a quick shot of how it looks and a desktop screenshot. (I’ve had to obscure some figures in the google sidebar [...]

Fixed Issue With IE6 Users Viewing This Site

October 28th, 2006 at 5:11 pm » Comments (0)

I’ve previously mentioned that if people use Internet Explorer 6 (rather than FireFox, or IE7) to view this site, they will not see what is intended. I’ve now discovered what caused the 2nd sidebar column to ’slip’ down the page, below the bottom of the 1st sidebar. It was when a site with a long [...]

Drive In Theatre ???

October 28th, 2006 at 5:05 pm » Comments (0)

OK, so not sure if this is going to be a permanent feature, or simply for a one off event, but opposite to us, very near the entrance to Astana park there has been a sign/board/screen constructed. For a couple of months, we weren’t sure what it was for, as the angle did not suit [...]

Reaching Bandwidth Limit

October 27th, 2006 at 1:17 am » Comments (1)

Looks like people were hard coding links to my BBC News Borat London Premier vid hosted on this site :< , rather than the original post, so I've removed the file, as I'm rapidly approaching the limit for this month (the video is still accessible from the first link though). If people read this message, [...]

Naughty Drivers

October 27th, 2006 at 12:42 am » Comments (0)

Big thanks to ChrisD for sending this link. It features impatient drivers who try to get past the automatic bollards you find in some towns with partially pedestrianised areas. People from Cheltenham will have seen similar accidents around Boots corner.

BBC World Report On the Borat film

October 26th, 2006 at 11:02 am » Comments (16)

This is a little video clip surrounding the London premiere of Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.

The audio isn’t perfect, as I had to raise the volume a little post-production, sorry. A reminder again, that FireFox users may experience a lack of audio/video synchronisation. Try viewing it in Internet [...]

Ira Is In Moscow

October 25th, 2006 at 2:29 pm » Comments (3)

She just called. Well she phoned earlier, but I was 99% asleep still. I’ve recently been looking at getting a small second monitor, to use for system monitoring/WinAmp visuals/Google Desktop sidebar on. We found one in a shop here in Astana recently. Unfortunately it had several large air bubbles on the screen’s surface; not a [...]
